March Honeymoon help

I now understand why people write these posts!

We are getting married March 1 and looking for a honeymoon spot. We would like to spend 3000 total and would prefer out of the US. However, our issue is that neither of us are really beach people. We like to explore the city.

We were thinking Ireland just waiting to see if prices came down a little.

Any help woul be greatly appreciated!

Re: March Honeymoon help

  • What about a cruise?  You can see lots of things/places and not spend a lot of time on the beach.
  • I'd say $3000 total to go to Ireland is probably wishful thinking.  Flights themselves would probably eat up more than half your budget, and then you probably wouldn't be able to stay for very long.  It takes me about 1-2 days at least to get over the jetlag, so between that and the amount of time it takes to travel to Europe I personally don't think it's worth it unless you are staying a week and a half minimum.

Have you thought about Montreal?  I had a friend who visited there a loved it.  The only thing is it might be a little chilly in March.

Another option if Ireland is a bit too pricey right after the wedding might be to postpone the trip a few more months to save up more money.

  • I've actually heard a lot about Montreal and Quebec. I heard Quebec is like little Europe in N. America. I think we will look into those two options. Thanks for the reminder. We did just find flights to Spain for around 550 per person, but are undecided.

I know you said you wanted ot travel internationally, but if you decide to not do that, there are some neat places in the U.S. you could go, like Northern California. This summer we're doing San Fran, Napa, then driving down to Carmel and taking a day trip to Big Sur. It is supposed to be beautiful scenery and there is a LOT of activities and things to do. Not a beach location at all (they have beaches but it isn't warm enough to spend time at the beach like elsewhere), and you could do it on your budget.

  • It'd be cold in Ireland or Spain in March.  I think with your budget, the most ideal place out of the country would be Canada (also cold) or Mexico (warm/hot).
  • Yeah I would say Ireland is out of the picture with that budget.

  • this past january (last week of) i went for my 3rd trip to italy (rome and florence) in 3 years. i paid $1300 a person for roundtrip air (jfk to rome non-stop and florence to paris to jfk), a gorgeous hotel in rome-4 star, and one that i'd stayed at in florence previously which is also very nice.
the off season is great-you can get a lot more for your $.
