Groton Rehearsal Location?

We're getting married at Branford House, but it will have a wedding the day before ours, so we can't get on site to run through a rehearsal.

We're having our rehearsal dinner at Koto Japanese restaurant in Groton - we have a private back room, but it's a bit cramped, so I'm wondering if that would be too tightly compacted for a rehearsal.

We don't have much to run through - just order of walking down the aisle, seating assignments, and quickly going through the ceremony (one of our two officiants can't make it anyway - we hired a JOP to keep everything legal, but she can't make the rehearsal, so just FI's cousin will be there).

Do you think we should do it at Koto?  Or is there a grassy area nearby that would work?  Or another suggestion?

Re: Groton Rehearsal Location?

  • If theres not much to go through, I say just do it at the restaurant
  • Weather permitting, why not use one of the parks? I think Washington Park is the name of the one in my head -  it's right next to the Groton municipal building. there's a lot of open space next to the baseball field. There's also, a little further, the one across from Grasso tech, I think it's Burrows. Otherwise, as long as you capture everyone's attention at dinner to pay attention to instruction, you could make Koto work for both. good luck :)

  • You could always do your walk through at a different location than the branford house- or you could do your rehersal early in the day, prior to any brides or bridal party being there. As I'm sure you know, the house is open to the public during the day even if they are setting up an event- so I'd imagine you could all meet there, so the bridal party could see the place, and do your own little run through. Or you could even do it Thursday night, permitting that your bridal party is all in town!

Other wise, there are other places on the Avery Point Campus you could use- large grassy areas out of view of the mansion. There are also many parks in the area, you could head to the docks in dowtown mystic- they have a large green there.
  • OLIO!!!! BEST RESTAURANT EVER. I actually hosted my mom's 60th birthday party there and they were fantastic. The food is excellent. Everyone mentioned how delicious it was for weeks after the event. It's by far the best restaurant in Groton. If you don't mind traveling 15 minutes, Mystic has tons of restaurants also. Definitely check out Olio though. It's fantastic.
