I recently got engaged a month ago and am new to the boards! Question - I need to get my ring appraised - does anyone know of a good place to go in the New Haven area? Prices? Thx!

I would go to the place that your FI bought your ring.

If your FI got it from a jewler, go there.  If no, try Libero Jelwers in North Haven.  They've been nothing but phemomenal in my experience with them.  I'm not sure about appraisal pricing, but only $30 to resize my wedding band (not purchased there- my engagement ring was free to resize)

Make sure you go to a certified Gemologist Appraiser.  I went to Paul Indorf- he's a bit north of New Haven. I had a great experience with him.

We went to Valentines Jewelers in Milford. It's family owned and they are awesome-- and certified.

A bit far for you perhaps, but I went to Lux Bond and Green to appraise a wedding ring from my Grandma.  They are in West Hartford and Glasonbury.   Appraising the old ring was $100.  They gave two official certified copies of the apraisal that can be used for insurence purposes and gave a very through descrition/picutres.

They also said I can bring in my engagement ring to be cleaned and checked for free.  I don't know what their repairs cost in the case of issus though.
