Help with DJ!

Ok knotties. You gotta help me. I had my heart set on DJ Melee, however, as luck would have it, another knottie with my same date contacted him the same day I did. And here I thought I was ahead of the game! lol

SO, I need recommendations to help soothe my disappointment. I DO NOT want a cheesy, gimmicky dj. There will be NO line dancing and I don't want some dj who just likes to hear himself talk. I want someone young enough to get what we are looking for, cool enough to spin everything from the Ramones to Frank Sinatra to Bollywood, but old enough to know what he is doing.

Someone, please, SAVE ME! Music is a HUGE thing for me and has always played a very important role in my life. This is one thing I have to NAIL for the wedding. This is made even more complicated by the fact that I am planning from far away.

Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated!

I'm so sorry. Geez, you described DJ Melee to a T with what you were looking for in a DJ! Sucks so much he was booked for your date! I hope you find someone just as awesome!

Check out Powerstation Events. We are using Todd and it sounds like you will be able to get that from them. They are fantastic to work with and we are really excited to be working with them. They definitely do not have the cheese factor at all.

Josh at mrmusicman.com he was fantastic. We had tons of friends ask us for his contact information after our wedding and we actually loved him at our friends wedding and that's why we hired him. GL!

My sister hired Aardvark Audio; Ron and Christy were fantastic.  The dance floor was packed all night.  There was no cheese, they only used the mic when they really needed to announce something, instead of just talking to hear themselves speak.  They played a great mix of fast and slow, oldies and top-40 and they were very professional.  We asked them to do a lot- he JP'd, they played songs guests requested on RSVP cards, they played a cd for my little sister who sang a song- everything went seamlessly.

Ditto to this - another knottie (LindaPinda) recommended him to me and he is AWESOME - I was at the 4 month mark without a DJ and freaking out about everyone possibly being booked (which all the "good" ones aka popular ones on this board were).

However, John is SUPER nice, totally accommodating, and ridiculously affordable (lowest prices I found for a DJ) - he doesn't jack up the prices for "extras" and he is totally willing to do whatever you want to make YOUR day as he calls it the best ("running the show, but you're the boss").

I know Melissa recommended Todd with Powerstation but I'm going to be honest, I'd be weary.  He was the first DJ we met with and liked him and had him lined up but hadn't yet signed a contract.  We decided to meet with DJ Melee and ended up signing with him because we really liked him and ultimately the price was right.  When I told Todd we decided to go with someone else he asked who and was rude in his email responses.  If you are looking for someone like DJ Melee, Todd isn't the person for you (maybe one of the other DJs from Powerstation are, but they are also much more expensive than Melee--not sure how much you are looking to spend.)  I know several people that used Powerstation and have been happy so they aren't all that way I can assure you.

You can choose who you want, but I just want you to be aware that they are two VERY different people...business-wise and personality-wise.  And sorry to Melissa for putting down your DJ, but I just didn't have a good experience with him.

Geez, Salamandy24, Rub it in! :)  I said I was already SORELY disappointed. I KNOW that is exactly what I was looking for! That is why I wanted DJ Melee in the first place. Anyone who "gets" this will know why I need recommendations for other comparable djs.

I know you meant no harm, but I'm already super bummed. Thanks so far to everyone else's suggestions! I will check them out. In the meantime, please feel free to add to the list!

Ditto Powerstation Events!  We're using David R.- loved his energy! Todd was great too when we met with him. (sorry you didn't have a good experience *Carebear*- I agree that was rude of him to criticize your DJ choice)
They have several DJs to choose from and you'll see videos of each to help you decide which one fits you best!

We also met with Todd from Jock in the Box and although we didn't end up choosing him, he was really awesome too!

    Good luck!

</div><div>DITTO DITTO DITTO!! I used Aardvark for my wedding. They also did my sister's wedding a couple of years ago. Everyone, including my photographer, was so impressed with them. They were fantastic. I love Ron and Christy!! They are so professional.  Christy is the one who will help you be organized during the night and will let you know when it is time for you to do things (e.g., father-daughter dance, cake cutting, etc.).  Ron is a fantastic MC. He does not talk much at all. They do take guest requests, but will completely stick to your DO NOT PLAY list! Christy makes sure that everything goes smoothly!  And our dance floor was PACKED all night long! I HIGHLY recommend them!
