Venue help for a long-distance bride-to-be

Hello knotties-

I'm looking for some opinions on a handful of venues on our current list. Although we both grew up in CT and most of our families are there (thus we are planning on getting married in CT/MA) we now live in NC, so my planning is long-distance. Any thoughts, experiences (both good and bad) that you could share would be very helpful!

If you have any other suggestions for locations (CT or MA, ~100 guests, $15,000 budget) those would be appreciated as well.  Going to try and narrow our list as best as possible so that when we are in state around the holidays we can hit up those that rank highest.

1- The Ranch Golf Club (Southwick, MA)
2- Glastonbury Hills Country Club (Glastonbury, CT)
3- Lake Pearl Luciano's [treetop room] (Wrentham, MA)
4- Lily Lake Inn [fountain room] (Wolcott, CT)

Thanks!

Re: Venue help for a long-distance bride-to-be

  • I visited Glastonbury Hills Country club as a potential venue.  I went there twice actually, once for a bridal fair and once for a scheduled visit with one of their coordinators.  The food at the bridal fair was delicious and everything they served were samplings off their wedding menu.  Their prices are also extremely reasonable.  They do add in gratuity, but there are no service charges (some places tack on both) to pay.  They also have a very pretty area to have your ceremony if you would like.  Overall, we ended up choosing a different venue (FI wasn't a fan of GHCC) but I would have had no problem getting married and having our reception there.  The only downside is that you are limited to where you can take pictures, no going on the actual golf course.
  • I visited the Lily Lake Inn and it was beautiful! The women was very helpful too! (they only had the small room availabel when we went to look so thats why we booked elsewhere...good luck
  • I have been to The Ranch before and it is a beautiful venue with good food, not sure about pricing...you would have gorgeous pictures!

I would also suggest The Riverview (Simsbury, CT... and right down 10/202 from The Ranch) or The Simsbury Inn (right across the street from The Riverview). I am getting married at The Riverview 11/11/12 and so far everything has gone very smoothly and I have heard great things from past brides and guests at other Riverview weddings. Their prices were also good and I like that the price per person included so much (cake, open bar, linens, etc) My guests are staying at the Simsbury Inn, but I went there for a bridal show before I booked our room block and the food/cake them make on premise was delicious! My FMIL has had a few friends get married there and said she had a great time at each wedding there and always raved about the food..plus your guests from out of town wouldn't have far to travel after the reception!

    Happy planning!!
