Father/Daughter Dance songs

For those of you who are doing father/daughter dances - what song are you using?

And my second question - how closely do you think people listen to the lyrics? I mean, some of the father/daughter songs that I've chosen have "unconventional" lyrics that some people might consider odd for a wedding. Do you think I should be concerned about the lyrics or just concentrate on the overall "feeling" of the song?

I have to say, I don't remember many lyrics from the father/daughter dances at weddings I've been to! I'm just afraid people will hear some of the oddball lyrics and think "why in the world did she pick THIS song?!"

My dad and I are dancing to "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin.  Very unconventional, I think, but it has personal meaning to us, and I think that is more important.  I think you should pick something that means something to you, regardless of the lyrics.  The feeling matters much more than the lyrics!

We did Rascal Flatt's Won't Let Go.... I totally get what you're saying about the lyrics thing though.  I don't know how many people pay attention/remember.  As long as you choose a song that's meaningful or special to you...I say go for it.

I was a huge into the lyrics, though- whereas my dad just gave me suggestions of songs he liked....

I am doing 'I Loved Her First' by Heartland.  I think it is 50/50 for people who will listen to the lyrics versus those who won't.  The other thing to consider if it is a song your guests will recognize.  If it is, they are more likely to listen to the lyrics I think.

I made my dad a CD for fathers day with my top 4 father daughter/dance songs...
Walk with you by Edwin McCain, I loved her FIrst by Heartland, My LIttle Girl by Tim McGraw and My Wish by Rascall Flatts.... I think you should do what is perfect for you and your dad.. I know if I was at a wedding and I listened to the lyrics, and they were weird, I'd assume that the song had special meaning and not think twice :)

Me and my dad decided on Billy Joel's - Just the Way You Are. When we were listening my step-mother turned her nose up a bit at the line that said "You'll always have my unspoken passion" which is the only questionable line, but my dad was like "get your mind out of the gutter, passion doesn't always have a sexual meaning!" So we're going with it. I'm sure most people won't even notice anyways. Plus my dad cried when i played it the first time as a suggestion because the rest of the words are me and him spot on. So boo to anyone who thinks that one line is out of order!

We used Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely", a nice classic.

We used "My Little Girl" by Jack Johnson. I love Jack and my dad didn't really have a preference.

Thanks for your input ladies! I am using "God only knows" by the beach boys. My dad is a HUGE beach boys fan. He took me to my first beach boys concert when I was 3 years old and it is one of my earliest memories. This song is one of my favorites and one of my dad's favorites...despite the fact that the songwriter was quite depressed when he wrote it!

I feel like there are so many memories behind this song, it would be silly to pick a different song just because of  one or two "odd lyrics"....thanks for sharing your song choices!

We used Bob Dylans "Forever Young".  Bob Dylan is my dad's favorite artist and I thought most of the words were are appropriate.

We used 'I will always love you" by Whitney Houston, because it always had special meaning to us and a little private joke, so we laughed and cried during the dance.  I'm sure people thought we were crazy but I don't care.

I think using a beach boys song because you've guys got a connection to it is a good thing..

We haven't 100% decided, but currently topping our list is "Tupelo Honey" by Van Morrison.  It's a great song =)

My Dad chose "I Loved Her First", I told him it was up to him and he came through with a good one!

We used an instumental version of "God Only Knows" as the precessional song!! :) My wedding "march" was an insturmental of "All You Need Is Love".

Also we were told that our first dance song was a break up song (The Beatles "In My Life") but we loved the lyrics and thought they could apply in either situation so we used it anyway!

I have always dreamed of doing my F/D Dance to "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion.   He doesn't know, and he'll probably cry like a baby.  Which will make me cry.  But that's all a good thing!

We are also using God Only Knows! I love that song, and it makes me think of summers in my childhood when we vacationed on Cape Cod and my dad would play the Beach Boys in the car. I think everyone should just use what makes your heart smile.!
