HELP!!! Freaking out Bride!!!

Have no clue where to look or where to go for our honeymoon.  We still have time to talk about it,  but I want a nice beautiful beach close to the gulf so that I can surprise him with deep sea fishing,  or cabin in the mountains near water so that we can do other things.....  I am looking at St. Lucia,  the Florida Keys,  or Lake Lure NC.....   we want to be able to lay around all day and order pizza in,  or go to a nice restaurant at night....  not big on the club scene anymore....  just starting to realize the cost of these things and thinking we may end up with a staycation and I will not be happy!!!!  :(  ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks

  • Here are a couple of spots that might be good. Both places have amazing beaches and scenery and the locals are very nice. I've been to both places by way of cruise.... which may also be an option, however, the deep sea fishing might not be possible for your hubby. Most places in the Carribean are nice, however be weary of port areas in Jamaica, the locals are a bit pushy with their merch. But really if you are both into exploring new and exciting activities, I would really look into a cruise, they have many nice excursions to choose from and depending on the type of room you would like to stay in, it can be pretty inexpensive considering it includes your food, entertainment, lodging and transportation to beautiful islands! We went with Carnival.... which they usually serve pizza well into midnight if you so desire..lol. Good luck with your search, hope this helps :)

    Cayman Islands

The islands that make up the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac) are surrounded by gorgeous, clear water, making them a diving hot spot. They also have a culture of politesse, which makes visitors feel safe and at home.

Best for: Couples who appreciate high-end resorts and the high-stakes adventure of wall diving.

Not for: Those who want to explore local villages for exotic cultural experiences. The Caymans have an American standard (and style) of living.

Highlight: Scuba divers love the Sunken City of Atlantis, where a local artist is constructing a below-the-surface city with sculptures cast from rock, sand and cement—all of which are fostering the growth of a brand-new reef (800-594-0843; bracreef.com/dive_atlantis.html).

Sweet Dreams: The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman opened in December on Grand Cayman's famous Seven-Mile Beach. It has a La Prairie spa, a Greg Norman golf course and a restaurant overseen by the chef of Le Bernardin, the New York City French food palace. Rooms have private terraces, and there are also secluded oceanfront condos (ritzcarlton.com; 345-943-9000). A more moderately priced choice are the accommodations at the Rocky Shore Villas. It has charming rooms—some in private cottages—and offers classes on traditional island cooking and fishing (866-845-6945; getaway.ky).

    The U.S. Virgin Islands

Of the three main islands of the U.S. Virgin Islands—St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix—St. Thomas offers more choices in hotels and activities, while being the most convenient to reach (most major airlines offer nonstop flights).

Best for: Sailing. The calm waters and soft breezes around the U.S.V.I. make it easy and fun to explore by boat the tiny islands that dot the bays. Winifred Charters sails through Pillsbury Sound to spots such as Mingo, Lovango and Whistling cays. Along the way you will drop anchor to take guided snorkeling trips (sailwinifred.com).

Not for: Shopping. At least, not if you’re looking for authentic local art and crafts. The bustling port at Charlotte Amalie is packed with shops, but they lean more toward duty-free goods than artisan crafts.

Highlight: Drake’s Seat. Travelers flock to this scenic lookout during the day, but the best time to take in the panoramic view of crystal-blue Magens Bay and the British Virgin Islands is at sunset, when the crowds are gone and the two of you can have it all to yourselves.

Sweet Dreams: Honeymooners who are looking to splurge can’t top the Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas. Set on 30 acres out on the far eastern tip of the island, the 152-room resort has two private, white-sand beaches and a new spa (ritzcarlton.com). The red-tile-roof Sapphire Beach Resort has 171 suites, with views of either the half-mile-long beach or the 67-slip marina (sapphirebeachresort.com; 800-874-7897).

  • Have you looked into any spots on the panhandle of Florida???? We love the 30A area....esp Grayton, Seagrove.......around Destin there are lots of fishing boats to rent....also if you go towards Panama City ...there are shelling trips.....there are loads of restaurants and shops......you can use VRBO and find great deals....the Keys are also great....think about Sanibel, Anna Maria Island as well.....Im not that fond of Lake Lure...there is really nothing there to do or many restaurants...think they have taken a hit with the economy...when we drove through last fall lots of closed /out of business places. sooo where are you from in SC....you also have great beaches...love the Charleston/Isle of Palms area/ Folly/Edisto....or you could go down to Tybee/Savannah in Georgia....good luck with your hunting:)
  • I'm thinking about doing the Carnival cruise to the bahammas. I looks like they have a lot of fun excursions to go on.
  • I'd say if budget is a concern, I'd stay in the states.  We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon and it wasn't exactly cheap with airfare & staying at an all-inclusive.

Destin, Panama City Beach, and Clearwater/St. Petersburg are all areas of the Gulf coast I've been to and enjoyed.

  • "just starting to realize the cost of these things and thinking we may end up with a staycation and I will not be happy!!!! "

what's your budget? if you can't afford a trip then you can't afford it-simple as that. you can take a mini-moon close to home and take a larger anniversary trip.

also you dont needt o be near the gulf to do deep sea fishing-that can be done pretty much anywhere on the planet near a coast line.

  • If you're on a budget maybe think about Savannah, Georgia. It wouldn't be a bad drive from South Carolina, and it would be better than a staycation.

I agree! My fiancee and I wanted to take a small vacation and decided on Savannah, GA, since it was close to FL, and we had a fabulous time!!! We got a deal on our room, buy 3 days get 2 free, there were plenty of things to see and do, art galleries, restuarants, shops, and the people there are very friendly. To be honest, we didn't want to leave! And I think we spent total there, eh 700.00
