Turkey!

My fiancé and I are planning on heading to Turkey for our Honeymoon in May.  Has anyone been?  Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks.

Re: Turkey!

  • Yes, yes yes.....I love Turkey!!!!  What an awesome choice.

There is so much to see and do.  What parts are you planning on visiting?  Staying on the coast or will you venture into Capadocia?

Lots of beautiful beaches, history and culture to explore!!!!

  • Try the Travel board on The Nest...people over there have been to all sorts of places and might have some ideas for you.
  • I went last summer to Istanbul and Kusadasi (Ephesus).  Istanbul was cool because it is so insanely different than America, but Kusadasi was my favorite by far.  It has the climate and feel of a Greek Island, and could be a great place for a honeymoon... my fiance and I were considering it but ultimately decided to go there on our 1 year anniversary.  It also is just 20 minutes away from Ephesus, a town that dates back to even before Jesus and has incredible ruins.
  • I went to Turkey for my honeymoon this past September.  We actually went on a 2 week hiking/adventure tour through REI.  Turkey was a great place to visit and I think you could do it on your own.  The coast was beautiful.  I would visit Istanbul for a few days and then spend a lot of time on the coast - Antalya (big city), Kas (great beachside resort town with lots of restaurants, bars and close to several day trips), Ephesus, etc.  Turkey is great because you have the beautiful beaches, water, sunsets, plus you get all of the ancient history, ruins, etc.  The food in Turkey was awesome!!!  Enjoy, I'm jealous and would love to go back.
  • Thanks!  We are planning on a few days in Istanbul then flying down to Dalaman to stay at the Hilton.  I'm trying to squeeze in a day or two to head to Izmir and Ephesus...  Would have loved enough time to head East to Cappadocia to do the hot air ballooning but we are trying to only stay 10 days.  Everyone I've heard from says Turkey is just amazing!!!
  • My parents lived in Izmir, Turkey for 2 years before I was born, and my family took a 3 wk tour of Turkey a couple years ago.  I love it!  I just saw that you're not going to Cappadocia--that was exactly the place I was going to suggest!  They have some wonderful boutique cave hotels that are a lot of fun to stay in, and the hot air ballooning is amazing.  Ephesus is one of my favorite sites.  If you're interested in classical sites, Ephesus is amazing, and "Troy" isn't too far away.  There are so many wonderful, beautiful things to see and do in Turkey, though!  Have a great trip!
