CT Wedding Group Tasting (The Barns) Vent

I just need to vent - I was suppoed to attend the tasting today for The Barns at Wesleyan Hills. However, due to the snow we can't make the almost 2 hour drive to go. I am so disappointed in their decision to not cancel or postpone the tasting. It's the only one for the summer menu so basically we won't be able to taste the food before the wedding. I understand that no one can control or anticipate the weather but when you hold a large tasting event in January you really should have a back-up in place, even if it is postponing it for the next day. I know that The Barns attracts brides from all over the tri-state area and I just really feel like their decision has put everyone in a bad position of having to decide whether to risk the drive or to not attend the tasting.

Someone I work with was going to that today too.  I don't know if she made it but I'll try to find out next week and let you know!

That's frustrating!!!  I can't believe that you won't be able to have another tasting. For all of the money you are paying, they should definitely offer an alternative date.

Wow, that's ridiculous that they didn't postpone! I'm assuming it's scheduled for early this afternoon, before the snow stops? Ugh. I would def. let them know how disappointed you are, and maybe they can set up a private tasting for you guys? (and the rest of the people who probably won't be able to make it...) I don't see how they can put you in that type of situation & think nothing of it.

A wedding we went to this past summer was catered by the same company, and the food was awesome. (but obviously, you want to be able to taste everything first) Good luck, I hope they work something out for you!

Our tasting was supposed to be at 1 though the vent runs from 11-4. We are just too far away to make the drive in bad weather. There's a tasting next weekend but it is for the fall menu which is significantly different than ours for the summer. I'm just so disappointed

Ugh, that's disappointing.  I agree with PP about contacting them to see if you can set up a private tasting... this should definitely be an option.  Good luck!!

Can't you call & ask them--maybe they will do something depending upon their turn out today or to accomidate you.

im so sorry to hear you couldnt make it today.  i was able to attend since i live only 20 minutes away and the commute was pretty bad.  there were alot of people there but i dont think as many as were supposed to made it because of the weather.  

i would either see if they will set something else for you or def. go next weekend.  the menu choices are a little different but at least you can get an idea of what there food tastes like and that they can make good food.  the choices they had today were some that are for fall and spring anyways and they didnt have every choice on the menus it was just to get an idea of the food.

Ditto kls. Can you see if they may have another option? Just to play the other side, it's winter in CT and if they left their schedule totally open then they'd have no other events booked.

I think we are going to try to go next weekend. We did end up trying to make it but turned around because 95 wasn't great and it would've taken around 2.5 hours to get there at the speed we were going. I was just disappointed because I felt like they put me and I'm sure other people in a bad position. I had been looking foward to it for a while. I didn't realize there was another tasting next weekend because I wrote them an email yesterday asking what would happen if I couldn't make it and they never wrote back.

So sorry to hear that you couldn't make it! I was also thinking about not going because of the weather. FI and I did decide to venture out into the snow and were able to get there (after two hours in the car!!) but if you would like my opinion on some things I would love to help you out.
