Secrets Capri Riviera, Mexico.

When I started telling people that we booked our honeymoon for Secrets Capri Rivera in Mexico I got a lot of uneasy looks but then they all said how great it was and that it looked really nice when I showed them pictures. But recently I've been getting talks about how we shouldn't go because it's way too dangerous. Now, I know that some areas are dangerous and what not but our travel agent assured us that she would not let us go if she didn't think it was safe and that if something does happen she will let us know and we can get our money back and book something else because we got the insurance (which is what eased my mind back when we booked the honeymoon). Now it's about four and a half months away and I'm feeling really uneasy about it because of what people are saying and I know that people could say that about anywhere but I can't help but feel a little uneasy. Has anyone been to this location or to Mexico recently? How was it? Did you have to take a shuttle to the resort? What was your experience there?

Re: Secrets Capri Riviera, Mexico.

  • I know 3 couples that have visited there in the past 14months.  They all raved about it and never brought up feeling unsafe.

As long as you're not flashing hundred dollar bills walking down the streets, you should be fine.
  • My husband I returned from our honeymoon there 2 weeks ago.  The resort sits along the coast and is buffered by other resorts.  There is a gate that is about 3/4 of a mile from the actual resort and there are security guards that check in every vehicle that tries to enter.  The resort isn't actually around any towns, Playa is about at 15-20 minute drive.  Did you arrange a transfer from the airport with your travel agent?  We booked through Apple Vacations and part of that was transportation from and to the airport.  I would suggest arranging transfers because when you land the airport is kind of crazy and not well laid out.  It also ensures you have safe transportation (some of the cabs looked sketchy).  The resort is very safe and unless you purposefully go seeking trouble you won't find it.  We booked day trips through the Apple Vacations rep at the resort so we knew they'd be safe and never had any trouble whatsoever.  Mexico has a bad reputation but like I said, as long as you don't go seeking problems then you won't encounter any.  Hope this helps to ease your fear, I'm happy to answer any other questions about the resort or day trips too :)
