photographer suggestions?

Hi everyone!

Can you recommend some quality/affordable photographers in CT? We are hoping to find someone that will do atleast 8 hrs of coverage plus an engagement shoot for under $2000. Is this realistic? We found someone that has a special going on regular $1500 for all day coverage and an engagement shoot but with the special it is going to be around $800 after all is said and done. Is this something that (good) photographers will do? We don't want to get dooped .

Thanks, ladies!

Re: photographer suggestions?

  • I absolutely love my photographer! His name is Mike Tomassi and he owns Picture This of CT. I'm sure he can work with you on pricing. good luck!!
  • We are using HK Photography, but their package is higher than $2k. We got an engagement session and all the pics on a disc, 2 photographers for all day coverage and all pics on a disc, plus a certain amount of edited ones
  • We used Studio1923, but their package is above your budget. Honestly, I wouldn't skimp on photography. Make sure you ask to see a whole wedding, start to finish, to see how good their work is.
  • We are using Eric Brushett... The package we chose is a little over $2k, we love him! I would def. say he is budget friendly.  We have him for the whole day, did a e-session, and also received a photo guest book. We also have full rights to our photos.

  • I used Ashley from AE Stelzer Photogrpahy, and she was great, we were so happy with her work! We paid under 2,000 for our package. She is artsy and uses a lot of natural light which we loved! www.aestelzer.com
  • I would be careful with selecting a photographer for under $2,000. They definitely exist, but make sure you like their work and they are consistent. Anyone can take their best 20-40 photos and create a website. Ask to see the photos from an entire wedding.

When you are on a budget, prioritize what you really want. For the cost of an engagement session you could hire a second photographer for your wedding instead. We opted to add a second photographer instead of a photo album. It is all about how you spend the money!

Many of the photographers listed above are very talented. For $2,500 you could get an awesome photographer, but without some of the frills. You should definitely reach out to them and see what kind of deal they are willing to give you!!
  • Your post reminds me of an offer I received and seriously thought about cuz of price....as i looked further it was a national company and very unorganized and that made me very nervous. Make sure you go and meet with them and see a whole wedding like everyone is telling you.....

photos were my top priority so my budget was high...it reallt depends on what you are looking for from the photos....

    good luck

and one of my top choices was hanlon photography...very reasonably priced and angela was extremely nice...we ended up with airen miller because we wanted different and fresh and edgy pics instead of the usual basic shots......everyone out there is good...you just have to fish through and most are willing to work price with you!!!!!!

    good luck

  • I used Brooke Allison Photography and she was amazing and includes the things you want! I agree with PP that finding a good photographer with all you want for under $2,000 may be a stretch.  Brooke is more than $2K but I think she is more reasonable than some other photographers.
  • $2000 or less is definitely realistic.  I know of three will likely be able to swing that:

    Krista Howard (ctphotographybykrista.com)

    Heather Hudson (heatherhudsonphotography.com)

  • You have to be careful at that price range because you will likely get doped! A good photographer will be $2500 + really. I got married several years ago and paid more then that but have had friends who would not listen to us get into a bad situation because they wanted to save a few bucks on pics and have chair covers!!! I just stopped back to see what was up (and my sis is getting married soon)!! We used Catherine Fiehn and (sis is too)everything was amazing. Her website is www.catherinefiehnweddings.com  Not sure if she is in your budget, but worth checking out.
  • Highly recommend Photology Studios. We couldn't be happier with the pics from our Trash the Dress session. We wish we had known about them before booking our wedding photog. Not because we didn't like our wedding pictures; we just thought Photology Studio offers a lot more for the same price (second shooter, engagement session). Not sure what their current pricing is but I think it's around your budget and includes 2 photogs. https://www.facebook.com/photology.studio
  • Thanks ladies! All great advice. We would LOVE to spend more on photos but our budget just doesnt allow. Believe me, im very sentimental and know that photos are the only thing left from that day. We are paying for the majority of the wedding ourselves so we have to stick to our budget. Thanks again!
  • I love her work!!!! Did you have to go up to Massachusetts to meet with her??
