First Student Bus Reviews

So I tried to search this, and for some reason search function isn't working ?

Anyways, I know it's been a discussion before, but can anyone tell me about their experiences with First Student for a bus for their wedding?

We ended up having 25 people rooms booked in our block (we were only expecting 10-12), and now about 45 people will need transportation to the reception. We had initially booked a 14 Pax van and we were going to have it do two trips, but with this high number of people, that just won't cut it. Doing 4-5 trips for the 14 passenger van would be so difficult for coordination, everyone would have to sign up for a time, some people would be half an hour late to the cocktail hour, etc etc...

Soooo we are thinking of just getting a school bus now. Any other transportation option, including trolleys, are over 1,000 and we just don't want to pay that much for something guests will spend 5 minutes in...though I don't want it to look cheap or weird.

Re: First Student Bus Reviews

  • I'm thinking the same thing! Keep us updated on responses--seems like an ok thing to try to save money on.
  • Looking into the same thing and I just sent a request for a quote over to them so I'll let you know what I find out!   In my case my wedding isn't for about 10 months so I have no idea yet how many guests will be taking advantage of this.  I'm guessing 40-50 ppl?  The trip would be from downtown New Haven to Lighthouse Point which is only like 10 min so I don't care if it isn't fancy.  I'm all about the price!  Plus school buses are kind of cute and we aren't having a very fancy wedding anyway, so why not.
I may not do a shuttle at all, but if it's a few hundred dollars I think it's worth is so that my guests can party down.  :-)  I am nervous about lack of air conditioning in July though.  Not even sure if that's the case (I seem to remember some school buses having a/c when I was a kid!), but if that's true I dont know.  Also not sure whether they'll charge for the entire wedding time (like, do they wait during the whole reception or leave and come back) or do they just charge for the hour or so of pick up and hour of drop off time?
Guess I will find out soon enough!

  • Just got a quote for First Student to go from downtown New Haven out to Lighthouse Point Park (about a 15 minute ride), for a 48-person school bus making 1 trip in each direction with 5 hours in between and it was $350!  I was pleasantly surprised!  Now I'll be checking into how much if we ask them to do 2 trips at the end of the night (an early one and a late one?) and if we need an extra hour.  Also don't know if the bus is air conditioned or not.  But overall not a bad deal!    Will probably wait on this until all my other budget items are figured out, and see how much $ i have left.
