looking for a reception/ceremony venue

Hi Everyone!  I'm recently engaged and my fiance and I are starting the whole wedding planning process.  As of right now, we're on a pretty tight budget, my parents are generous enough to contribute $15,000 and we'll probably add in another $5,000 of our own.  I am not sure yet if my fiance's parents will be making any sort of contribution, so as of right now I'm looking to have my wedding for right around or under $20K.  Does anyone have ideas for ceremony and reception sites that are inexpensive (we're not having a church wedding)?  I know getting married in the offseason is usually favorable to save money, but we both really like the warmer months, and would want to be able to have pictures outside.  We're open to May-November of 2013 for a date.  Someone had said that Traditions of Wallingford, CT is pretty inexepsnive, with plates starting at $45, but I wasn't sure if that was the off season price, or the normal price.  If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them, since I feel like every place I look into has gotten crossed off my list for being to expensive.  I look forward to chatting with many of you!

  • Our wedding will be under $20,000 and we are doing it at lighthouse point park with sweet relief catering. It's Beautiful there and sweet relief is inexpensive. But just keep in mind you have to do every little detail yourself. For me it's well worth it but it all depends on how much you love the place

  • We are having our ceremony and reception at Glastonbury Hills Country Club. There is a gazebo outside for the ceremony, and beautiful grounds for pictures. In case of bad weather, they are prepared to do the ceremony inside, and they have a room with a huge window, so it will still be nice. They have a lot of menu options(buffet or sitdown) that are reasonably priced. This includes cocktail hour, meals, and open bar!

What I did when I first started planning was I went to weddingwire.com (clicky) and looked up venues in my area. Then I contacted the ones I liked best and created a spreadsheet of their prices and available dates. I also contacted some of my "must have" vendors (like my photographer) so that I made sure to pick a date when they were available.

We ended up picking Mystic Aquarium. But there are a ton of different locations you can choose from.
  • Our full wedding and ceremony is around 7,000 and we are not skimping anywhere.. Your wedding will be beautiful no matter your budget!
