July 2012 Weddings

Honeymoon tickets booked!

I'm so excited, we finally booked our airline tickets for the honeymoon! We're flying to the Pacific North West for a month on the monday after our wedding, that's in half a year -1 day :).

We hesitated for a while, because the trip will be quite expensive, even for budget savvy travellers like us. But we decided we wanted this once-in-a-lifetime experience, even if it means we have to save up for a down payment on a house a few months longer.

We'll be flying into Vancouver. After that, I'd like to go to the San Juan Islands, Seattle, Olympic National Park, Portland, Columbia River gorge, Bend, Crater Lake and back to Vancouver. If anyone has any other must-do's in the region, please let me know :).

  • Wow that's quite a trip! Congrats! :)

  • Sounds like it will be an amazing trip! I think splurging a little on a HM is okay. Like you said... it's a once in a lifetime thing!

  • An entire month? Woo. That's awesome. I've never been that far West before.

In fact, the furthest west I've been was Omaha, Nebraska. I experienced a lot of snow - but not much else as far as remarkability goes.

We all have to make sure we post pictures from our honey moons. :o)

What type of actual activities do you plan on doing?

  • You're going to have the most amazing trip!  It's been over 10 years since I've been to that area of the states and I still dream about Crater Lake.

I love Crater Lake.  FI and I stopped on our way back to AZ after I graduated college (in Seattle).  It was definitely worth the detour...except it was FREEZING! Tons of snow in June....weird.  We definitely was to go back, though.

  • Wow, I hope that there won't be any snow in July! We're not teachers, but in europe we tend to get more days off than you guys. A month is very long, even for us, to take at once, but luckily our bosses agreed. I work in politics, and we have local elections in October, so I'll definitely make up for the lost time. Gina, I'll definitely ask you about the schedules. I was thinking about going to San Juan island, would you recommend orcas island instead?

I do think Orcas Island is the prettiest of them all.  More hilly/mountainous, more forests, freshwater lakes.  I can suggest some must see stops for each of the islands, so you could day trip to each one if your hotel was on one island.
  • yay congrats!
