Budget outdoor/indoor venues

I am somewhat newly engaged (as of Christmas Eve) and want a wedding outdoors (with an indoor possibility in case of rain) in October. I love the look of older, rustic barns like the Barns at Wesleyan Hills and Webb Deane Barn in Wethersfield.

Do you have any suggestions for venues in CT that are budget friendly? We're aiming for a wedding of 80-100 with a budget of $15,000.

Thanks!

Re: Budget outdoor/indoor venues

  • We had our reception at Mystic Seaport (in the River Room at Latitude 41, which can have a rustic feel to it). We had our ceremony off site in a church but a lot of people get married on the North Lawn overlooking the water. As a back up, there's a small non-denominational chapel on site.

    Good luck!!
  • We looked at the Dudley Farm barn in Guilford, CT. The property includes a barn, house, and fully functioning farm owned by a non-profit org. The quoted us around $1,500 to rent the space. On their website they said the barn holds 80 people, but that is without much else on the floor, like a DJ, buffet (if you want one) or dancefloor. There is, however, a lower level with bathrooms and more space to use as you please. Overall we loved the place, but needed more space because we are expecting 100 guests (we are getting married at the Webb Barn). The farm does not have a preferred vendor list, so you can save a lot of money by chosing your own caterer. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I really like Webb Barn but just from pictures on the website so far. I'm calling today to set up a time to go see it because I really want to get married outdoors and I love the look of the barn. I'm all about fall and just about everything that goes with it and it would work so well with what I would want to do.

I just looked at pictures and read the Dudley Farm website and OMG. I am a crazy animal lover. Just about all animals. So this would be great! I like that it starts at $875.00 too that's great. Thank you SO much. Every time I google "wedding venues" I just get the bigger places and have had a hard time finding quaint places like these!
  • I was actually going to suggest Dudley Farm as well.  I am from Guilford and was going to look at it, but it was too small for me as well.  If you can plan your vendors right for renting, catering etc. you can definitely make it work.
  • Wickham Park!!  We did the package with Log Rolling/Delaney House catering and it was $99/pp and it included the Wickham Park fee.  It's gorgeous too.  Message me if you want pictures from our May 2011 wedding there.

  • Just wanted to share a helpful tip for finding venues in general....I went on the Connecticut tourism site, and from there you can search for different venues in your county.  For instance, I searched in Mystic County for hotels, restaurants, farms, vineyards, and historical homes, and through that I found a TON of potential venues, including a couple of vineyards in Ledyard and Colcester that may be less expensive than the Stonington ones.

  • we're getting married at Mahan's Lakeview in Wolcott on 10/14/12.  They have a beautiful chapel with a glass window overlooking the trees and the river or they have a nice gazebo.  Also, their packages include reception, limo, dj, and centerpieces.
  • I really like Webb Barn!
I am going to check out the tourism website also, that is a great idea. Still on the hunt but my personal deadline to have a venue is end of July so I have some time!
