I have never been to Europe and its been my DREAM to go to venture Italy and France. My fiance has explored parts of Italy and Germany while studying abroad in college.
Is Europe the hopeless romantic honeymoon experience? Ive heard disaster stories. Or do I stick with the typical gorgeous beaches and crystal blue water in Aruba or St Lucia?
Our last and only getaway vacation was to the bahamas for 4 days. We enjoyed water sports and tanning on the beach but after 4 days we got bored and hated the food. We also stayed at breezes through an all inclusive deal and we stayed during the WORST week possible- spring break. I couldnt help but get out of our resort at the bahamas to experience the bahamian culture. It was so sad how americanized the "outside" it was.
A little bit about us- fiance is an architect so hes into sightseeing, musuems, buildings, engineering etc. I am a big foodie lover- love theatre, arts, culture, meeting new people,FOOD/WINE, club/bar scene- love cities but love exploring the outskirts of places.
Its hard to say what we really want. I know the benefits of each place but its really the cons I may not be able to get over.
Personal ideas of cons of Europe...
-We dont want to feel completely LOST and unfamiliar.
-We dont know any foreign language
-Fear of being too much of an outsider we'll be trapped into "touristy" things and miss the greatness of living like locals in these amazing cities.
-Afraid we are going to lose valuable time on figuring out how to get around and where to explore and where to eat- by that time honeymoon is over.
-Dollar exchange is pretty awful
-Afraid the trip will be too rushed- like I need more than 1 week.
Cons of Carribean-
-Not really into beaches or water sports; get bored pretty easily
-Resorts are luxurious and safe but very Americanized too
-Surrounding areas of resorts are often unsafe to explore
-All inclusive deals can be great but often you're stuck with crappy food/drink options and pay for things you wouldnt normally do anyway like water sports, spas
-Things that you want to do like cruises or boat tours etc are extra aside from all inclusive deals so inn the end you pay more!
If anyone has vacationed in Europe or the Carribean, please share details of your trip! And please any reccomendations of where to go, hotels, resorts, online resources etc would be very helpful!
