Mother/Son Dances

What are your FI's dancing with their moms to? I posted this on another board, but, trust you ladies. My FMIL is apparently incapable of picking an appropriate song. I want to give FI some possibilities to approach her with (obvs, I am not touching this conversation with a 200 mile telephone line).

We were thinking "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts.  Nothing has actually been decided yet, but that is on the top of the list.

That is so much better than what FMIL wants, her choices?
    1. "Wild World" by Cat Stevens (it's a break up song)
    2. "I'll Always Love my Mama" (a 7 minute doo-wop song, when she sang it to me, she said "It goes, 'I'll always love my mama, she's my favorite girl' I mean...no offense" which, FI and I both agree makes it a little awkward)
    3. (and this one is my personal favorite on when it comes to the level of ridiculousness) The Beauty and the Beast song, the one angela landsbury sang? That "tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme" song? Really?

We need a list of infallible options!!! I can't talk to her about this. I refuse to talk to her about anything re: the wedding.

My FI and his mom are dancing to "A Mother's Song" by T. Carter. It's so pretty! I randomly found it online and asked my DJ about it. He said it's getting very popular.

ughh this was difficult for us. While DH is close with his mother, they were both a little awkward about dancing together. Whenever we would ask her about songs, she would suggest things like Wu Tang Clan.

    Yes she did.

So, we picked Louie Armstrong, "what a wonderful world." its short, and not too mushy, and its what our DJ recommended to us.

she had already danced to "through the years" with BIL.

We almost had her with "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon. I thought it was set. She decided she doesn't like John Lennon after the Beatles and now wants the Doo-Wop song. And she's adamant!!!

I would take Wu-Tang at this point! LOL!

I would just let her pick what she wants. I'm sure your DJ can cut the doo-wop song so it is shorter. FMIL originally suggested American Pie. It seemd like a weird choice to me, but I just went with it because I told her from the start that it was her dance and her choice.

We're not doing the Mother/Son dance, so we're thankfully avoiding that drama attached.
But at my brother's wedding, he and my mom danced to "You'll Never Walk Alone" --there are about 50 different versions if you look. There second choice was The Wonder of You" by Elvis Presley.

Just don't do "I'm Dancing With My Son On His Wedding Day".  It's awful.

If you think that's bad, MIL wanted, Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" for her song with BIL.  Because that's what he does according to her.  He raises her up.

Yeah - they went with Rod Stewart's "Forever Young".

It's not the length of the doo-wop song, it's the fact that she recognizes it's has an inappropriate message and still wants to go with it.

I like the idea of Rod Stewart's Forever Young!!

XOXOB, if she really is giving you a hard time, take a deep breath and tell her FI picked something and he wants it to be a surprise!  Tongue out
