Another hotel question

Ok ladies, so I am probably going to call about hotel blocks this week or next.  My venue gave me the name of 3 hotels they have worked with that provide shuttle service to and from the venue so I am calling those places first to get info.  I looked up all 3 on tripadvisor to make sure they got good reviews and 2/3 did.  But, if any of you have ever stayed at any of these places I'd love your input/review

Homewood Suites by Hilton in Stratford, Courtyard Marriot in Shelton, and Hilton Garden Inn in Shelton.  Homewoord Suites and Hilton Garden got really good reviews, Coutryard Marriot not so much.

Re: Another hotel question

  • Im using the courtyard marriot for my May wedding.
  • I have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Shelton on a few occasions. I have had very positive experiences. The hotel is nice, updated, and clean. The staff is very friendly AND they always have fresh baked cookies out. It is also in a convenient location, near the highway, and right by a Walgreens and restaurants including an Outback and Vazzy's.

Some of the guests for my 9/1 wedding are staying there. :)

Let me know if you have any specific questions, I am happy to discuss!

Laur110, do you remember how far out they let your reserve the hotel block?  And how many weeks out from your wedding they will remove the hotel block?  did they ask you for an idea of how many guests would need a hotel?  We are inviting around 200 people.......my list and my FI's friends list is all local so not sure how many of them will stay over (guess it will depend on drinking plans, lol) but a lot of FI's family list is OOT
  • Hi, we got engaged in November 2011 and reserved our room block in January 2012 for a September 2012 wedding. We did not do a room block at the Hilton Garden Inn, some of my family members had Hilton Reward Points and wanted to use them.

We did a room block at the Hyatt House in Shelton and they have been great to work with. They are located down the street from the Hilton Garden Inn and are near Chili's, Panera, Ruby Tuesday, Breugger's Bagels, and Longhorn Steakhouse amongst others. We are using their complimentry shuttle to transport FI and his wedding party to The Waterview. If you are interested in using their shuttle, just be sure to check with them so they can reserve it for you. They have a complimentry breakfast and also have a bar area in the lobby.

They gave us a deal, if 20 or more rooms were reserved through our block, FI and I would get a free suite room for our wedding.

If you are interested I can get you the name and phone number of my contact person.

    BTW: Your puppy is adorable!

  • I blocked rooms at Courtyard Marriott for my wedding in October. They have been great to work with thus far and we were able to block up to 40 rooms without paying anything. I would definitely go and check all of them out and see what rate they could offer you. Marriott had the cheapest rates, so that is why I went with them.

<div>Agree... They had the cheapest rates and for every 5 rooms booked we would get a roundtrip with their shuttle included. Also if we have 10 rooms booked we'd get a complimentary suite. I'd look into there. We used them for my brother's wedding 3 years ago and was pleased</div>
  • I have stayed at the Courtyard after my cousin's wedding and my experience was positive.  It's nice that they have a bar in the lobby for everyone to hang out post wedding (I don't have experience with the other hotels so they might as well).  My cousin also had a breakfast the next morning which was very nice.

One of my friends who lives in Massachusetts stays at the Hilton Garden Inn when she is here on business and enjoys it.
