Vendor response time

As I've started contacting DJs and photographers, I'm finding that some of them take up to a week to get back to me. Is this normal? I was expecting an acknowledgement within a day or 2, but are some of these folks THAT busy that it takes this long? It seems that some of the more sought after photographers (for ex) take the longest time.

Some of mine took a while and some were right away. My florist took a little while while my makeup artist was the same day. The venue took about that long too. It varies it seems.

I had contacted my vendors during the winter time so the response time was pretty prompt since it wasn't during wedding season. I do notice that when I emailed a few of them this summer it took them about a week or two to get back to me.

It is busy wedding season so give them some time.  One of my potential vendors had said Sept and Oct are really busy.  If they are taking longer than say 2 weeks then something may be wrong.  Usually weekdays they tend to do better with responses, weekends they're usually working.  And if you really want them to respond quicker try calling them (that is if you had been using email as the means of communication).

while i agree with the other girls...it is wedding season, give them some extra time, etc...i think you also need to trust your gut.

if you feel that a vendor is taking a ridiculous amount of time to respond to you, it might be a bad sign.  if they aren't being responsive when they're trying to get your business, they could easily be worse once they already have it.  i only say this b/c i had a bad feeling about one of my vendors...he was taking forEVER to respond to me after i hired him, and i really felt like he was just ignoring me.  he ended up cancelling on me 3 weeks before my wedding AND kept all our deposits...

I agree it is a busy time! Give it some time.

We booked all our vendors between Feb-July of last year & they were really quick to respond etc.

Yikes! Can you share who this was so I can be sure to avoid him? Thanks.

I agree- it's a pretty busy time. It can also be the way you contact them. If you are just sending them inquiries through their website, they may not check that everyday. It may be better to try a different way to connect with them if you feel you need a more prompt response.

We had vendors respond in different time frames. Our venue was quick as well as the DJ. Photographer was a couple daysand limo took the longest. this is still peak season for them so I think a little bit of a delay is normal :)

Thanks for the info ladies - I just had no idea what to expect. If a client calls me - especially for sales - we respond within 24 hours, regardless of our work schedule. Different industry though!

i think a few days is fine, but in this age, email is sufficient....my DJ has been emailing me about new music and such and he is completely booked these coming months.  I think you have to aim for people who are ready and willing to get started now for you...I'm not sure you have looked into my DJ....DJ Melee i think it is...his real name is Jason.  He seems to answer right away!  www.musicbymelee.com is his site.

on the other hand...september is the busiest month...as i've had trouble finding time to meet with my photographer !

OMG!!  Ladies a business person,, if you are emailing them during business hours should get back to you within an hour or so!!!   If they an individual by the end of the day. I learned that in my business ethics class. If they say something, sorry for the delay I was on a flight, etc that's different. But you should at least get an acknowledgement.

I've basically checked off the ones that are at the 4-5 day mark. Unless they call with profuse apologies explaining some family emergency or something, they aren't in the running for this bride!
