I booked! Am I Crazy? 6 months!

I just booked my dream venue. I got engaged in October and was planning a April 2013 wedding. However when it came down to it I was not happy. It gets darker in April faster, I would have to have an indoor ceremony at my venue, it was a Friday versus a Saturday wedding on a date I did not love, I am more than a hour away from the venue so it would be hard for guests. Outdoor ceremony is not an option in April.

However, the venue gave me the option of a July ceremony in 2012, I can have an outdoor ceremony, on  a Saturday at a amazing amazing price. I just could not say no. Ahhh...Can I plan for a wedding in 6 months? July 2013 would be double the price not a option

  • You could do it I think.  What date did you choose?  Where did you choose?

I think you can do it as long as you're organized, and willing to accept that some of your top picks for vendors may not be available. We're also getting married in July, and in August some videographers we looked into already weren't available! But lots of people have planned weddings in 6 months or less, and it seems like way too good a deal to pass up!

  • You can definitely do it.  I literaly had my whole wedding planned within 2 months of my engagement!  I see only 2 challenges for you:

    1)  Designer dresses, if that's what you want, often take up to 6 months to come in.  This mean you'll probably have to buy off-the-rack to ensure you get it in time.  Sample sales and dresses that girls are trying to re-sell (either lightly used, or brand new and they bought another, which is quite frequent) would be good options!

    2)  Vendor availability.  A Saturday in July is high demand for the wedding industry, so chances are you're going to run into a lot of people who say, "Sorry, we're already booked for your date!"  This might mean you won't get your first choice (or maybe even second or third) for your date, or you might have to spend more money to get the same quality as the 'great deals' would have already been snatched up.  Just do a lot of research, ask the girls on here for advice, and start calling IMMEDIATELY.

I think the key is just to get a start on things NOW.  I'd try to have a few vendor meetings booked for the next two weeks and aim to have most of your big vendors booked by the end of January.

  • You absolutely can. My friend just got married yesterday after only 4 months!

  • Yep, you can- but ditto PP- you won't always get your top vendors!

Go get your dress, NOW! Book a DJ and a photographer. I think those are your biggest to-do's, with find a baker and flower next on the to-do list.

You can totally do this! Let us know how it goes!
  • Lfreeman24: Thank you. It was an amazing deal. Other than time, I could not complain. I am in love with my venue.

Calindi: Thank you. I don’t need a designer dress. I am open minded to dresses.

I am concerned about vendor availability. I am going to pick my top 3 DJ’s, photographers and go from there. I started to email DJ’s tonight. Your right, I need to make a lot of appt’s soon and book quickly.

Thank you everyone. I am so happy to have the day, date, venue, outdoor ceremony I love. I will keep you all updated.

  • I did it in 7 months!  We got engaged 10/2/10 and got married 5/1/11.  My advice... look at the classifieds on here and on weddingbee.  I bought a lot of things from other brides.  Buy online so you don't have to go to the stores, it can be shipped right to you.  Buy your dress immediately.  You can get some designer dresses you just might have to pay a rush fee.  Be prepared for wedding planning to consume your life for the next 6 months but you can do it.

We planned a wedding for 120 people in a short time.  I did all my own centerpieces, favors, card box, tears of joy packets, name hangers, as well as many other DIY projects and still managed to get it done.

  • Yes you can :)  And honestly there are plenty of vendors to choose from even if you don't get to pick your "top" choices because there are a lot of good ones that you can only find out from word of mouth (not necessarily on this board).  So ask around if you find that you didn't get your top choice vendors because there are a lot of local gems that just need more exposure.

I wish I hadn't booked my photographer so early on because I had thought I had to months ahead but in the end I wasn't too happy with the final product (not bad but nothing to be excited about) and actually discovered better photographers who could be potentially available..  So don't let time be a pressure to you, if something doesn't feel right just move on and find someone else.  You will find someone who will do a great job but make sure don't let the time pressure you to making the decision.

Also I booked DJ Melee 3 months before my wedding, I know it's pure luck but I am sure you will find someone great no matter what :)

    Good luck!
