When are you leaving for honeymoon?

I've heard differing opinions on when to leave for a honeymoon. Some say go next day, others say go back to work for a week or so, then go.  When are you leaving?....

Re: When are you leaving for honeymoon?

  • Our wedding is Saturday night and we leave Monday morning.  We wanted a day in between to open gifts and rest up a bit before the trip!

  • We are going to do a mini-moon (2 nights close by) after the wedding and then go on the actual honeymoon two months later.  It just works out better with our jobs and the warm weather will be a nice escape in December.
  • Wedding on Saturday, leaving on Monday morning. I didn't want to have to worry about packing before the wedding, so we will have Sunday to go to brunch, see off family, and pack.
  • I am getting married next Saturday(June 23). We will spend the night at our venue then wake up on Sunday, have breakfast with our guests, check out then drive 10 hrs to the Ozark Mountains. We will stay in a riverfront cabin with our dog for 4 nights then drive back home for 13 hrs. We will have the last weekend of June to rest up, and unpack before starting work on Monday (same job for him, new one for me).
  • Our wedding was on a Saturday, and while we originally had planned to leave on Monday (2 days after) we were forced to leave on Sunday (the day after) due to our airline (long story).

I would highly recommend NOT leaving the day after.  I wish we would have had more time the day after to spend with guests before they left town, to relax & open gifts, and just reminisce.  Instead, we got up, spent most of our morning retrieving things from the venue site, packing, and then leaving.  We didn't get to talk to as many people as I would have liked, we didn't get to open any of our wedding presents, and I was more exhausted than I've ever been in my life which made travelling even worse.

    Just my thoughts.

  • We are getting married at 5 pm on a Thursday nigth and leaving around noon the next day.  We are getting married in Seattle (home) and then crusing out of Ft. Lauderdale two days later.  Since we have a boat to catch we wanted plenty of time since we are getting married in December.  We are way more excited for the honeymoon than the wedding, so we are looking forward to getting the H*** out of Dodge.
  • Our wedding was on a Friday night and our flight was on Saturday evening.  It was fine.  I think it'd be anticlimatic to go back to work for a week.

We're getting married on a Saturday and leaving early that Monday morning. We fly out of ATL (for Mexico) and it's about a 2 hour drive. I'm NOT  amorning person so staying late for the wedding and getting up early the next day for driving then flying wasn't really something we wanted to do. Plus, we wanted to help with clean up and see the family and friends a little more before everyone departs.
  • We got married on a Saturday and left on Monday. We were so glad we had an extra day in between to sleep in, pack, unwind, etc. I'd highly recommend at least leaving one day in between.

  • We took our honeymoon over our first anniversary.  We did a minimoon in Atlantic City but in all honesty, even that was a waste.  For the entire week after the wedding, we slept.  We were so exhausted that we didn't have the energy to do anything that required more effort than getting up from the couch to make a sandwich.

  • Getting married Sunday 10/14 and leaving early Tuesday 10/16.  We didn't want to miss the after-wedding brunch!
  • We got married on a Saturday, and left the next afternoon which was perfect for us. We were able to sleep in and have breakfast with my parents, MOH, and the Best Man. Then we were whisked away to the airport. We knew we wanted to go right away and keep the momentum and excitement going.

Friends of ours who got married a few months after us waiting a week to go on their HM due to the cruise they wanted to take, and she said it was the longest week of her life and she wishes she could have gone back and done it differently. I can't imagine having to go back to work the Monday after the wedding, but that's just me.

My advice is to either take a later flight the next day, or wait a day or two to catch up on sleep, open gifts, etc..

Our wedding is on Saturday and we're leaving the next day for our cruise. Ideally I wanted a day in between, but most cruises leave on the weekend so we're kind of stuck.

  • we went 3 weeks after our wedding. we didn't go back to work right away-took a few days off to spend iwth OOT guests. it was fine. i'm so glad that i didnt have to rush right off-we were exhausted for days after.

  • We got married on a Saturday and we left for our HM on Monday morning.  Thank god we had that Sunday to rest up and recover (mainly for H because he enjoyed a bit too much Grey Goose during our reception).  I hadn't packed anything before our wedding (and really didn't have time to) and both H and I were exhausted and pretty much napped all day Sunday.  It also gave us time to open our gifts to see what we got.

  • We're leaving 2 days after the wedding. In addition to getting better prices on our flights, we thought it would be nice not to have to rush to leave for our honeymoon.
  • We're getting married on Friday night and leaving for our HM Sunday morning....I REALLY wanted to leave the next day because I liked the idea of just sort of disappearing with my husband and keeping the romance and excitement going, but it just didn't work out with flights at all.  I would NOT recommend going back to work for a week.  I had a friend do that recently due to a cruise schedule and she said it was a really miserable week.

  • Wedding is Sunday evening and we're leaving at 1pm on Monday. Would have liked another day but we're using miles so our options were somewhat limited.
