Cruise or fly?

So my FI wants to go on a cruise, he's pretty set on it.
But I want to go to hawaii or some other island.

Our budget for the honeymoon is $4,000-$5,000 (maybe a weee bit more, depending)

Anyone know of any places to go?

FYI: I've never left the US. So I have NO CLUE where to go!
Also, share some reviews of cruises if you will.

I like to cruise because I get to see a lot of places in a short amount of time without worrying about food! The only downside to the cruise is that usually you are only in the destination for the day time, like 9 am to 5 pm and I'm so curious about the nightlife in the islands we visit! Oh well, the cruise does have the clubs/bars/entertainment going all night long.

I think that whatever you choose will be great, but cruises are usually cheaper! Good luck!

My fiance & I weren't big fans of the cruise we went on this year. It was cool to be on the ship, but I'd rather spend more time on the islands. It was way too short of time to get to do everything we wanted. Also the cruise wasn't all-inclusive, so my bill at the end was a lot more then I was hoping to spend on a vacation. Alcohol was a killer!

We are definitly going to an island & staying put! I can't wait to have a week at 1 place to explore everything & anything we want!

i really don't know. i love cruises and i love islands. it is yours to compromise on

On paper, cruises can be cheaper since meals are covered but keep in mind that alcohol and soft drinks aren't included and depending on how much you and your FI drink, those costs can add up quickly. Also, even though your meals are included, depending on what time of the day you're in port, you might not eating on the ship but rather in the area where you're docked so you may not always be making use of the meals you've already paid for. Just something to keep in mind.

It's also a tough call to say which is better. Cruises def. give you a tasting of what's in each island, but by the time docks, people are let off, you don't have as much time as you would like to see and explore.

Could you compromise and do one for your HM, the other set for your first anniversary?

I second the NCL Hawaii cruise.  It is not like your typical cruise though.  It is very port intensive and is designed to be a floating hotel (for all intents and purposes).  There aren't a lot of activities onboard the ship during the day or if you choose not to go ashore.  The cruise is designed to give you a brief overview of Hawaii.  I have a friend who took this cruise in February and really enjoyed it.  Her suggestion would be to go on it with the idea that it's not your typical cruise (no casino, etc.).

I third the NCL Hawaain cruise! My FI and I are planning one after hearing how much my parents loved it.  We have been on several cruises and are big fan of them (especially Carnival), but they have all been in the bahamas.  You cannot beat the food and entertainment on cruises and I love seeing multiple Islands in one trip!
