question about vendors

Do you tell a vendor when you are not going to use them?  FI and I have consultations scheduled with a few photographers over the next couple weeks; once we make a decision do we let the ones we met with know that we have decided to use someone else?

Re: question about vendors

  • Just be honest and tell them you're using a different vendor. Thank them for their time & info they provided.

  • Yup. I was emailing about 6 videographers at once. When I decided on one, I sent a short email to the others - "Thank you for all your help. We've decided on a different videographer. Enjoy your day/weekend/warm weather/etc."
  • Yes absolutely!!! I am sure they have a list of people they have that they have done consults with, so it would be nice for them to get a heads up if you are no longer interested.  That is what I did at least.
  • I would say if you actually meet them or had a consultation that it is nice to do.  But if you just emailed people for prices, I don't think it is necessary.

Funny story, when we were looking for a church around the area of the reception I had contacted a few different ones to see if the date was open and had a few questions.  I got a call the other day from a church we had contacted saying we had wedding scheduled that day for us.  We never met anyone from the church, never confirmed we were wanted to have the ceremony there, it was literally just a phone call asking if they date was open and whether they would allow non-parishners to get married there.
  • I always did.  In one case when I did, the DJ wasn't even grateful that I was courteous enough to do that and had a very rude response to me and putting my DJ down when he admitted he had no idea who the chosen DJ was.  Anyways, if you sat down and met with them then yes....or if they are persistently calling or emailing you then yes do it.  I've found that DJ's are the most competitve and get the most defensive...even ones you've never met.

Wow that was a scattered response...sorry!
