Outdoor Ceremonies Question

For those of you who have had an outdoor ceremony, what did you do about ceremony music & vows?

Did you have a ceremony musician? If so, what instruments? If not, what did you use for music?

As for vows, did your DJ or musician provide a microphone for the vows?

I've never been to an outdoor ceremony before so I don't know what I should do regarding music. My fiance said that our DJ would play music at the ceremony but I thought we should get a musician for it.

I'm facing a similar decision. My DJ (melee) will do the ceremony for a very reasonable price. However, I love string instruments and would love to have a few musicians (2-4). My plan right now is to stick with the dj, and a few months from now if there's a little extra money (what's that?) I'll reconsider adding it in.

I'm also using DJ Melee, but not for the ceremony. FI's aunt is in a woodwind trio (oboe, clarinet, and something else that sounds pretty...) so we are using her trio for the cermony music. As for the vows, our JP told us that her wireless mic usually picks up the couple's voices, so I think we are going to give that a try at our rehearsal dinner. As a backup, if the JPs mic isn't picking us up.... I also checked with my venue about a PA system. They can provide a small PA system with a microphone, if we need it.

If you are using your DJ for your ceremony, I imagine they would let you use their PA system and microphone. If not, check wiht the venue, to see if they provide a PA system. Most venues have one, becuase they often host meetings/conferences that require a mic. GL!

We just got married outside and DJ Melee was my DJ too! I had paid him to do the ceremony music but then a couple of weeks before my sister on laws bf vouluntereed to play the guitar for us as guests were being seated and then as I was walking down the aisle. We only had 90 guests and we were not using mics and no one had a problem hearing the jp or us.. It all worked out great! I would say though it depends on your number of guests and your surroundings.. If your near the water might make it harder to hear then a garden.. Good luck!

We are also using DJ Melee for our reception and ceremony.  He said he has wireless mics so we will be using those.  We also asked FI's cousin to sing for part of the ceremony so we will do choose something with words but just take them out.  She is actually a student at Hartt studying vocal performance and I believe opera.  She's got a beautiful voice and is no stranger to singing at weddings.  You can go here to hear her sing if you are interested (seriously, no pressure).
