Flowers

I am meeting with a few different floral shops this week and next week. My anticipated budget I fear is not enough, and I may end up spending more on flowers than I would like. We are having approximately 20-25 tables and five bridesmaids. I am finding the prices to be around $3000.
We aren't doing anything fancy (at all!) and the flowers I like are gerber daisies, no roses, etc...

If people do not mind me asking, what should I figure in for the flower budget?

Re: Flowers

  • Are you doing lsrge or small centerpieces? I am doing small (in mason jars) so they are on the lower end. I am going to need about 18-20 centerpieces and I have 6 bridesmaids. We are using hydrangeas & garden roses or peonies. We are also getting 2 ceremony pieces and moss squares for each of our tables (the mason jars will go on top of this). Our quote was around 1500-1800. I definitely don't think you should pay $3000 for gerber daises! Especially if you do small, rather than tall, centerpices.

  • I think it depends upon what flowers you are looking into. You can get away with a lower budget depending upon flower choice. We had 25+ tables and a larger BP and still got away with less than $2,200 all together.

  • I have 20 tables and 6 bridesmaid and I am only paying $1900 for flowers. I have small centerpieces in birch bark vases. I am using Flower Girl in Southington. She is awesome and creative! When I met with her, I just gave her ideas of what I wanted and the stuff she suggested was great! She differently takes the time to make you feel special. I would totally give her a call, see if she has your date and try to meet with her.

We have 15 tables that will have tall, big flower arrangements and I have 4 bridesmaids. We're paying $4800 so the prices can def. range depending on what you're looking for. Smaller arrangements will cost less and it also depends on the type of flowers you're using/the time of year.

  • I think it is a lot of money for what I am looking for - small round or cube glass bowls with gerber daisies centerpieces...nothing more than that, nothing fancy and very simple bouquets. No other flowers needed. Gerber daisies are also in season during July, which is the month we getting married, at least according to what I've found. I have appointments with a bunch of places, that was just a quote from one, but I think it is on the expensive side for what we are going for.
  • For about $2,400 I'm getting:

~ calla lily bouquet for me
~3 calla lily bouquets for BMS
~4 calla lily coursages for mothers/grandmothers
    ~11 bouts for fathers/grandfathers/GM/groom
~16 centerpieces (roses/gerbera daisies) in a wreath around a hurricane lamp with a candle inside
~swag for the front of the gazebo
~2 large arrangements for the beginning of the aisle

Calla liles are not inexpensive flowers so I think you'll be able to get what you want for a price you want. I saw 3 florists and the prices ranged from $2,400 to $3,200 for this same thing. Definitely shop around.

  • The quote was from a vendor recommended on here, but I have multiple appointments lined up from recommendations here and elsewhere. I thought it was a bit much, but I just wanted to make sure my expectations weren't completely off base!
  • I recently went with a friend to her florist appt, and the florist told me something very interesting about gerber daisies... you would think that they aren't an expensive flower, but they can actually be quite finicky (and can add to the cost). If you've gotten them in a flower arrangement, you will notice that the gerbers are either wired or in plastic tubes. The stems are quite fragile, and often the flowers can wilt fast in warmer weather. I'm wondering if your pricing is high because of the extra work the florist will have to do to keep the daisies looking nice? I've had a few friends use gerber daisies in their wedding... one thing I did notice is that by half way through the wedding, a lot of the petals were droopy and wilting... especially on the boutonnieres. It might be worth asking the florist about the gerbers and see if that's were a lot of the cost comes in. My friend's florist (who was also my wedding florist) actually gave her alternative flower choices that would provide a similar look, but were hardier flowers.

Thanks for suggestion, I will definitely look into that. Daisies are my favorite flower so it will be difficult to change, but for the cost (and to reduce the look of dying flowers by the end of the night) I could easily be swayed.

It's worth seeing what she says. In case you want a second opinion, we used Lori at Flore in Woodbury. She's amazing. I actually wanted to do my own centerpieces, so she taught me how to do the arrangements and got the wholesale flowers and supplies for me. She also made my bouquets, corsages and bouts. My friend hired her on the spot to do her wedding after meeting her. I found her to be reasonable. www.flowersasmedicine.com

Just sent out a bunch of inquiries for florists!!!! Fingers crossed!
  • Try using your local Stop & Shop florist. That's what I'm doing & making my own centerpieces. Only $1100 for everything. AND it's the day before Mother's Day when the prices are sky high.
