Alaska HM

We are thinking of going to Alaska for our hm so I'd like to pick your brains!

I want to know everything lol Cruise or no cruise? How did you book? Where did you go? What did you do? When did you go? How far out did you book? And if you don't mind, about how much was it (airfare, trip, etc)?

We are thinking of doing a cruise but have no idea where to start. We are looking at sometime between May-Aug 2013. We'd  definitely like to go whale watching. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated!! TIA
Best of luck to you and yours!

I went on a cruise to Alaska years ago (2003/04).  It was Royal Caribbean and I belive the ship was called Radiance of the Seas.  It was awesome!  I went at the end of August so it wasn't freezing.  I believe the ship went to Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau and Hubbard Glacier.  The ship left from Vancouver.  I originally flew to Seattle and took a couple of days to enjoy the sights then took the train up to Vancouver.  It was actually the best way to do it.  I went Glacier Hiking, Dog Sledding, and gold panning.  If you do a cruise definitely get a cabin with a balcony since you will be able to go in and out (and avoid the crowds) when you pass by Hubbard glacier. If you do a tour for glacier hiking and/or dog sledding make sure you book the early morning tour since you have to take a helicopter and the weather gets iffy fast (many of the afternoon tours got cancelled.  I didn't get to enjoy Juneau since we got stuck on the glacier (weather issues) but on the bright side I did get to do a bit of ice climbing and rapelling since we had time to kill.  I absolutely loved the trip.  The scenery is gorgeous and there's a big chance you'll see whales without having to pay for a tour.
  • There's a girl on my month board planning an AK HM. You should pop in and post to find her. I'm sure she'd love someone to bounce ideas off of.

Personally, I'd be heading to all the awesome National Parks up there. All the previously mentioned ideas make me want to go very badly myself!
