La Mirage

Hello Ladies,
Thanks to everyone who gave me budget friendly venue suggestions! I have been on a mission for the past few weeks to find a venue, and I think I finally have one. I took a tour at La Mirage in North Haven and it seems to be the best value for a lower budget.
I was just wondering, if anyone has ever been there for an event and could let me know how the food/service is?
Thanks!

Yeah, sorry to also say but....I went to a wedding there last year and it was.......bleh. Food was bland, prime rib was over cooked, fish smelt off and the waitstaff was very disorganized and confused. I ordered a dirty martini and the first bartender didn't know how to make it...and then when i finally got it had a bug in it. Also was a giant dead cricket on the floor next to our table and they didn't restock the appitizers it fast enough to keep up with the guests.

I agree w/ PP. I went to a wedding there a few years ago and again a little over a year ago and the food reminded me of "stag party food". The decor of the place was extremely outdated too. Have you looked into other all inclusive venues? Maybe Mahan's Lake View in Wolcott, Aqua Turf can be very affordable too.

I agree with the PP's. Do your self a favor and don't have your wedding there. The food is average at best and the setting of the venue is very outdated. We were there once and they had oil tankers in the back of the building sitting in the parking lot. The scenary is not very "wedding" like either. While it may seem you are getting a good value, you're really not. I knew someone that had a wedding there and everything was extra (certain appetizers, cake cutting fee, chair covers, etc)

I'm really sorry to tell you that my fiancée and I went to La Mirage we met with Bud on several occasions just this past winter. When it came time to sign the contract they say that everything is included but its not. The contract which I had to read over 3 times to get the full impact of what they where saying was bad. They tell you that the deposit is 1000 that you get to pay in 2 installments which was great, but then I noticed written in after that that an additional deposit was required after that for another 1000. An then another one after that making the total deposit due 3000. When confronted with this he said he wasn't going to change it but it was a safety net incase for some reason we had to call off the wedding he got to keep that money. Also if you decided even a day after you signed the contract that you couldn't have it there anymore for whatever reason you still had to pay the 3000 deposit.
Now the chair covers, the cake and all the liquor was supposed to be included, but while going over the contract I found out that it was a standard cake with no decorations that was included. If you wanted anything design or flowers or anything on the cake you had to pay extra for it. Also the so called open bar wasn't an open bar for all that long only during the cocktail hours and after dinner it was an open bar should you want anything to drink with dinner you had to pay for it. When we asked to do a food tasting to decide what we wanted for the menu we where told we couldn't and if we insisted on it it would cost us extra.
Also for your guest to sit at your ceremony they had you pay to set up and take down chairs and you had to do the ceremony "his way".  So just watch out for all of this stuff like most people say you get what you pay for but seriously watch out for this guy because when we came in to sign our contract he had given away our date for the wedding to someone who had called on the phone and I was so ticked and he asked us if we wanted to pick a different day I said no told him I wanted our deposit back because he gave away our date and if he didn't I would pursue legal action against him and he turned very nasty and told me he was entitled to the another 2000 because all we had to do was pick a different date. So be warned!

I would look into other venues!!!! There are tons that have excellent reputations and actually do what they say with no hidden b.s!!! I wouldn't do business with them!! Check out crystal peak John and Jennifer have been amazing to work with, it's very budget friendly and super inclusive

Try the woodwinds in Branford, it is amazing and I've never heard a bad review.  We are getting married there.  Their basic package is around $93 a person which includes tax, tip, table linens, cocktail hour, 5 hours open bar, and wedding cake.  Honestly, you will not find that same quality for cheaper.

I have been to the woodwinds and it was very nice, but they have no Saturday nights left for June 2012. They offered me a daytime event for 5% off, but I really don't feel like 85$/person is a good price for that time of day when most people aren't going to eat or drink that much.
