Black dress

Can MOB's and MOG's wear black to a Labor Day weekend wedding?

Can they wear black at all or is that strange at their daughter/son's wedding?

I think that black would be no problem at all as long as it goes with the formality of the wedding (I would say a long black dress wouldnt be appropriate for a daytime BBQ type wedding). Pretty much, I feel like if bridesmaids can wear black all year round, then MOB and MOG can as well.

plus everyone looks good in black!

I think it's okay! Slimming too!

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as the style of the dress is appropriate for the occasion.  Like what Melko said, you wouldn't wear a long black gown to a casual daytime wedding.

i think its fine.  its an outdated custom that the MOB/MOG couldn't wear black (like it was dressing for a funeral, lol), but now its just fine.  some moms prefer black.

What's interesting about this etiquette is that it takes two forms:

-It's not really appropriate to wear a white dress to a wedding if you're not the bride.

-It's also not approriate to tell any adult what color to wear.

But to answer your overall question, if the moms want to wear black, that's lovely.

well my mom is very portuguese and she believes black means mourning, funeral, personally im staying away from black for my bridal party but to each its own, and black is my favorite color go figure. if my guests choose to wear black thats fine i dont have a problem with that at all. I think that a nice rich color like an eggplant or burgundy is a nice color for mob and mog. of course this is only my opinion but i would go with no, not ok from my cultural pov... good luck
