Anyone planning a skiing honeymoon?

I wanted Hawaii, FI wants Aspen. He won...lol. Really though, he spends most of his time in warm resort areas for work, so he really wants a 10+ day trip to Aspen skiing. We're getting married in Sept, but waiting until Feb to take the honeymoon. I'm trying to find other things to do aside from skiing the whole time.

Re: Anyone planning a skiing honeymoon?

  • Starfish, I'm from Colorado and there are tons of non-skiing things to do. I spent a weekend in Aspen a couple of summers ago, and we had a great time walking around the downtown, going to an art museum, going to a brewery, etc. Check if there are any fun concerts going on -- Aspen is known for great entertainment. If you're wanting to venture out a bit, there are a lot of fun places nearby. The Maroon Bells mountains are a must-see (great photo ops), and they're right outside of town. I would go to the hot springs pool at Glenwood Springs (an hour away). Breckenridge is another fun Colorado ski town with cool shops, but it would be a longer drive.
One really important travel tip for you -- Aspen is at a pretty high elevation, and the biggest mistake tourists make is not drinking enough water and getting altitude sickness (which feels like a hangover). Also, if you drink coffee or alcohol, make sure you drink enough water to stay hydrated. No one wants to feel bad on their honeymoon :-(.
    Have a great time!
