Hotel Suggestions

So here's my dilemma:

We are getting married on a Sunday (Church is in Fairfield, Reception is at Woodwinds in Branford , FI and I as well as immediate family lives in Shelton area) and trying to figure out the best place to book hotel blocks. (I know I asked awhile back about suggestions in Branford). We are trying to figure out what will be most conveinent because a lot of family will be coming in from OOT on Saturday or maybe even earlier that that. Originally we were thinking the Holiday Inn in Branford because it's close to Woodwinds and people will be tired/drinking at the end of the night so that is the most conveinent. However, now knowing that extended family might be spending extra time here, I'm wondering if it makes sense to reserve a block in Milford/Shelton because it's closer to family and to the church. Or should we reserve blocks in both and give people the option.

Any suggestions?

As long as the hotels wont make you pay for rooms you block but don't fill, I'd say do both. Let people have the option of where they stay.

It definitely can't hurt to reserve both, if you explain to people the different areas and what the schedule of events is.  (like PP said, as long as you don't have to pay or guarantee a certain percentage book).

I think that staying close to the reception site might be best.  We had a lot of guests come down Fri-Sun for our reception in Mystic (ceremony in Niantic). Everyboy stayed in Mystic but even with such an awesome vacation town/ things to do, a lot of guests didn't have much time. People got in some time Fri, grabbed dinner, settled in...then most of Saturday is consumed with wedding stuff (getting ready...maybe hanging by the pool if there's time). By Sunday, most people will leave in the late morning/early afternoon IMO. Different guests will prob have different priorities though so I think it's good to leave it open as long as you explain the distance between the church and the reception etc. etc.

Are you having a shuttle?  If you are then I would do closer to where you live.  What about maybe New Haven?

We checked with our venue to see what they recommeneded as far as closeness. 

One hotel, if we did a block had a minimum. But if you called up and did a room on your own there was no night minumum. So you might also want to look into that.

Thanks for the suggestions.  We talked it over with our families this weekend and since the people that will be traveling all will likely have different plans (some staying for the week, some the weekend and some just one night) we are just going to provide a list of suggested hotels and not worry about room blocks.
