1st fitting timeline?

I just called to schedule my first fitting and she said they won't do it until May 8th. My wedding is June 3rd. Is this normal or should I insist that they do it earlier? Can I go and try the dress on to figure out what type of headpiece and jewelry I should wear?

Re: 1st fitting timeline?

  • How many fittings do you think you'll need?

I bought the sample dress, so I've gone in once to get it taken in 2 sizes. My first "real" fitting is the last weekend in April (28th), and I'm getting married June 16th.

If your seamstress isn't very busy and you ordered your own dress, I think you'll be okay. They're the professionals who do this all year, so they'd know how to schedule, KWIM?

My wedding is July 21st and my first fitting is April 6th. I have another in May, one in June and One 2 weeks before...

you should be able to go whenever you want to try it on and get an idea for jewelry or any other accessories if you want.... I think you're fine but if you're uncomfortable definitely ask for your first one sooner.

  • I'm getting married over Memorial Day weekend and I had my first fitting in February, 2nd in April, and 3rd the week before the wedding

I agree.... My wedding is June 29 and my first fitting is April 7th. My second will probably be mid-May, and my final fitting 1-2 weeks before the wedding. (The bridal consultant says I may be able to skip that middle fitting in May, becuase my dress doesn't need too many alterations and I'm not planning on changing my size before then). I think the first fitting is typically 6-8 weeks out, but I'm doing mine about 12 weeks out...and then the second and/or final fitting is about 2 weeks out. So technically I think you are fine on time, but if you want to go sooner, you should be able to go when you want to.

If you are more comfortable having your first fitting sooner, you should absolutely be able to do it sooner...after all, you are paying good money for it! That's my opinion - I don't have any experience running a bridal shop but I can't imagine why they wouldn't let you come in when YOU want to. I don't think it could hurt to ask, if it makes you feel more comfortable. For me, I wanted to get my first fitting done early, because I like to do everything ahead of schedule.

  • That seems very quick.  My first fitting was February 25th for my April 21st wedding.
  • I agree with PPs. Go in earlier to see about jewelry, but they probably know what they're doing in terms of scheduling.  If it makes you nervous, just tell them that and see what other times they could fit you in.
