Early October Honeymoon - Greece or Thailand

Does anyone have any feedback on honeymooning in Greece or Thailland in the first 2 weeks of October?  We're having trouble finding a good location because these dates are associated with hurricanes, rain, monsoons, etc.

We'd like to do a non- all-inclusive place, as we've both been to AIs  many times and want to do something different.

Will Greece/Mediterranean be too cold this time of year to do beachy stuff?  Will Thailand be too rainy to really enjoy it??

I should mention our budget is around $5,000 for 7-10 days.

  • I think Greece would be lovely.
  • We had friends HM in Greece in early Oct and they had great weather.  They went to the beach a few times; but they also had days were they wore jeans and jackets.
  • $5000 between the 2 of you after flights?  If so, you can live like kings in Thailand, or do pretty well in Greece...as long as the political situ stabalizes, which Im sure it is.  Id also say location of where your departing could be a factor...if ur on the east coast, ur flight should be quit a bit less...in time and cost.

  • for me, 7 days in Greece would not be long enough.

  • I have always wanted to go to Greece!  But I agree, when I go back to Europe it will be for at least 2 weeks - the travel time & jet lag really cut into your vacation time when you are traveling that far.

  • I agree that if you decide on Greece, stick to the islands, not the mainland.  There's way too much turmoil going on.  I was unimpressed with Athens last year when we stopped there on our mediteranean cruise.
  • I am going to Thailand! I say do it. We are staying at 5 star hotels the whole time for what it would cost to stay at a 2 star hotel in the US. If 5k doesnt included airfare you could have an AMAZING trip. Ride elephants, rafting, , hiking, snorkel, sight see, etc

Have you ever been to Europe? I have been to Europe a few times and figured it was more likely that I would make it back to Europe than it would be to make it back to Asia. Plus I have never been to Asia to it will be a completely different culture for me and FH to experience.

Also, Greece is a little scary right now!

PM me if you want hotel info, more info on places to visit. Our Travel agent gave us a bunch of great info (no all-inclusives!)

  • Thanks all!  We are mainly concerned with Greece being a little too chilly for beach time.  It sounds like that might not be the case??

Katwag   Ive been to Europe a few times, so that's why I was thinking about doing Thailand, for somehing a little different.  If you have any suggesttions on hotels, I'd love to hear them!
