Food Cost in Maui, Hawaii??

I am wondering what the average cost on food we will spend per day while we are in Maui? Not including excursions or anything like that. We are staying 5 nights 6 days. Were not sure about the hotel yet but i think we have narrowed down our choice and it will not include any meals or anything like that. I am wondering how much money I need to have set aside for this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Food Cost in Maui, Hawaii??

  • we are doing 6 nights 7 days in Maui  and are budgeting about $2,000 for food, drinks, and entertainment.  If we spend maybe $500 on entertain (mind you these are all estimates) that would leave about $200 a day for food and drink.  That seems high but i'd rather budget too much than not enough!!
  • My advice is always $100 a day minimum.  If you plan to eat alot at your hotel, double that.  We spent closer to $300/day but we ate most of our meals at our hotel.  If you are drinkers, 2 drinks at the bar or pool with tip was $30 every time.
  • If you're eating out every meal, it'll get pricey for sure.

I'd budget more than 500$ for activities for a week. They tend to cost 100$ p/p on average (more for some of the Molokini trips, less for kayaking/snorkelling) and then you have to add on tips and whatnot.

Of course, if you're into doing more of the free stuff, then 500$ works!
  • I'm also going to Maui for my honeymoon in October (5 days, 6 nights). FI and I booked a condo ( Aston Ka'anapali Villas) with a full kitchen so we can stock up on groceries and make breakfast and lunch ourselves and only eat out for dinner.

  • If you are staying on a resort such as Sheraton/Westin/Hyatt etc. you can expect to spend $20-$30 per person for breakfast & lunch and about $30-$50 per person for dinner.  A can of beer by the pool can run you around $5-$8 each.  Make sure you check out some local cuisine places such as Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina or Cool Kats on Front Street.  Make sure to go to Front Street for dinner & shopping at least one night!
