Not a HM, but a 1 yr anniversary trip...

So even though this isn't a HM, I figured to get the insight of all the well-traveled brides and brides to be...

My H and I are considering taking cruise for our 1 year anniversary (doesn't have to be exactly on the date just sometime around it) in July.  We would love to see Italy mainly, but a few Greek islands or even parts of France and Spain would be nice as well.

Has anyone taken a Meditteranean cruise before and if so, what cruise line did you use, did you do a cruisetour instead of just a cruise, and which cities did you wish you had more time in?  Any other insight is welcomed...this would be our first time cruising so any tips on cruises are welcomed as well.

  • Checkout www.cruisecritic.com. It is to cruising what the Knot is to WP
  • Thanks for such a great link!

  • Hi Maggie,

We went to Greece for our 1 year anniversary and had a wonderful time!
Here's a trip report on my blog: http://darcela.blogspot.com/2011/05/greece-anniversary-trip.html
We went to Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. We LOVE Santorini and wished we had spent more time there!

If you prefer to do a cruise, cruise would be a great way to see a lot in a short time. We did a mediterannean cruise with my family this past August.

We chose Norwegian Epic since it's one of the newest ship and the price was quite reasonable. I don't think they do Greece though on the Epic. I would look into the Celebrity cruises that also, my friend took them and had a really great experience.

When we did the cruise, our stops were Barcelona, Livorno (Cinque Terre), Rome, Naples (Amalfi Coast), and Palma de Mallorca. Our favorite was Amalfi coast and CInque Terre.

Let me know if you have other questions!
  • Msaputra, thanks so much for all the wonderful information.  My sister and her husband spent a few days in Santorini on their HM and absolutely loved it as well.  I will definitely look into Epic and see what cruises they have to offer.  Thanks again!

  • I don't have any feedback on Mediterranean cruise but I know any one you take will be amazing- just look at cruisecritic.com as someone else suggested. It narrows it down even as far as itinerary/ship name, so you can be sure that you are choosing what fits you best!

On a side note- so strange... DH and I just booked our cruise for our 1yr anniversary/honeymoon... this July. :) I was calling it our "One-eymoon" and DH likes to call it a "honeycruise". Cheesy I know. We are going to Southern Carribean for 7 nights... saving the Mediterranean for our 5 year.

    Have fun!! :)
