Maui Hotel Help

We are in the process of planning our honeymoon. Currently, we plan on going to Hawaii in October, and spending 3 nights on each of the following islands: Kauai, Oahu, and Maui. We are using our hotel points and staying at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for 3 nights, and Marriott Courtyard in Waikiki for 3 or 4 nights.

We are trying to figure out where to stay in Maui. That part of our trip will be out of pocket, but we can't figure out if we want to go the hotel resort route or more economical route. If we were to stay at the hotel resorts, we would take advantge of hotel specials and stay in their cheapest room. Our thinking with that is we will rarely be in our room and will be able to advantge of the resort offerings. With the more economical hotels, our thought process is there is a lot to do in Maui so we might be out and about anyway. Any thoughts? Any help would be much appreciated!

Here are some of the hotels we have narrowed it down to. Ritz Carlton, Westin, and the Hyatt Regency for hotel resorts. And for more economincal choices: Hotel Wailea or Ka'anapali Beach Hotel.

Any help would be much appreciated! TIA!!

Or you could go the condo route and be even more economical. =)

I had to drop off some OOT bags at the KBH for some guests staying there - they weren't in love with the place. Not that you asked but I love the Kahana area - we had a ton of guests stay at the Polynesian Shores condos. All the condos are oceanfront/oceanview and were running about 99$ a night at that time.

We stayed at the Ritz and loved, loved, loved it.  However, it is very secluded so renting a car is a must because there is not much to do on the resort itself.  Eating and lying on the beach are about it.  And the food, of course, is very expensive. I would not consider it the most economical choice, but you would certainly enjoy your stay there.  There is a lot more to do in the Kaanapali area where the Westin and Hyatt are located.
  • we loved the Hyatt... free breakfast every morning too (if you stay 3 or more nights)

  • Personally we are hoping to stay at the Ritz on Maui, as long as we can save enough to do so. Our wedding isn't until next February, and we aren't going on the honeymoon until next May, so hopefully between our savings and if people contribute to our Honeymoon Fund on our registry, we will be able to do it. From what I've looked into, I think this is the best place to stay.
  • Another vote for the Hyatt Kaanapali.  It is a beautiful resort and the breakfast buffet was delicious!

  • Has anyone stayed at the Westin in Kaanapali? Or Hotel Wailea or Ka'anapali Beach Hotel?

It sounds like we might want to stay in the Kaanapali area since there are more things to do. I can only lay on the beach for so long....although we are really there for only 3 nights. Decisions Decisions.

I did consider the condo route, but it looks like a lot of the condos are rented out for at least 1 week at a time. If anyone can recommend a good condo that we can rent for 3-4 days that would be great!
  • Aston Mahana Kaanapali- we are renting for 6 days, so I think less than that is possible. Look on vrbo.com.

  • We just booked the Hyatt Regency.  My parents have stayed there before and it gets good reviews on here and trip advisor.  We also wanted to be close to Lahiana.
  • we stayed @ the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel before & it was nice. it's not as romantic or couples oriented as some but for only 3 days i'm sure you could find plenty to do even if you're not a laying out/relaxing person lol we went on one of those glass bottom boats, to see dolphins & do snorkeling. there's some fun shopping & the food around there was SO good!
