Vegas Hotels...

Hey girls - Going to Vegas for our honeymoon! Its so hard to decide on a hotel based just on their description and rating. Looking for a hotel somewhere along the strip (walking distance to stuff bc we wont have a car) but we also don't want to spend a fortune on the hotel because we wont be spending a ton of time there. We are planning to spend our last night in a really nice room. Any suggestions?

Re: Vegas Hotels...

  • We always pick our hotel in Vegas based on their pools and rooms since you can access all the hotels restaurants, casinos, exhibits, and nightlife.

We really enjoyed MGM Grand's pool complex since it had a lazy river and we also liked the waterfalls in the pools at the Mirage. Next time we go, we'd like to upgrade a little bit and stay at either the Palazzo or the Wynn.

If you're looking to stay in a really nice room for your last night I'd look into the Wynn, Encore, Palazzo, or Aria. Mandalay Bay is nice but it's all the way on one end of the strip. We've never rented a car in Vegas but never had a problem getting around as they have sidewalks that go above the road to cross the street and a monorail that runs behind the casinos for a small fee.

If you're going in July it is going to be HOT!  So you definitely want a pool.  For your last night, I second Aria, and the Venetian is also nice.  For the other nights, to save money but still be somewhere decent, the Monte Carlo often has room specials for $99/night, as does the MGM.  Maybe for your last night, just upgrade to a nicer room, rather than switching hotels altogether.

As long as you're on or a block or 2 away from the strip, you wont need a car at all.
  • For my HM, I would pick the Bellagio or the Venetian and for a splurge, a balcony room with a view of the fountains at the Cosmopolitan.

If you are looking for something less expensive, the Planet Hollywood is in a great location.  The pool there is not good though.  The Mirage has a great pool but I like the location of PH better.

My advice is just to pick what's in your budget.  All the hotels have pros and cons.  For me, as long as it has a great pool, I am happy.  For some, location is a big thing but you can always walk anywhere.

Although it's a little outdated, I found this map really helpul when we went last year if you want to see where the hotels are located.

  • Thanks so much girls!  That was exactly what I was looking for, I've heard good things about MGM, but I might be willing to stretch the budget for a more honeymoney feel. :) We'll be going in September, gives us something else to look forward to, and to be able to celebrate our marriage again only a few months later, instead of having to wait a year for our anniversary!

  • FI and I stayed in the Flamingo over the summer. It's not at all expensive, but our room (anstandard room) was very nice. The location is wonderful, too - right dead center on the strip. FI and I got to watch the fireworks at Caesar's from our hotel room window, which was amazing!

  • If I was going for a hm I'd stay at the Bellagio b/c it's really nice.  But, I've been to Vegas twice and stayed at the Paris and Mandalay Bay.  Paris was okay, nothing special.  Mandalay bay was awesome.  We loved the man made beach.  Even though it's on one end of the strip it's fun to walk the whole strip and check out all the hotels.  They each have some kind of attraction.

This is TOTALLY worth the splurge, in my opinion! It's my favorite place I've ever stayed in the 6-8 times I've been to Vegas.
  • Vdara is one I have stayed at recently - its new in the new city center and is next to Aria which has TONS of places to shop.  Cosmopolitan is also a BEAUTIFUL hotel with lots of shops.  The thing I loved about Vdara is there is no casino therefore no smoking in the hotel.  It's within walking distance and has a sweet pool.

    I'd highly recommend city center!

  • MIRAGE!!!
Not totally expensive but really nice.  Classy.
  • I vote the Wynn for the restaraunts alone. The rooms at Encore are my favorite. Vdara is fantastic if you don't want the gambling / smoking thing in your hotel. MGM is okay, but just mediocre in my opinion.

I Liked the Luxor when I went. It is at the end of the strip but still easily accessible to everything with the Deuce or the Monorail. Whatever you choose go to trip advisor to get actual pictures and ratings of the rooms before you book. The professional pics are one thing but to see actual pictures from other guests is invaluable.
