I need help trying to figure out where to go. I am not a person to sit out in the sun at all. I will just burn. I am looking to go some place in sept or oct for a week while on a budget. any ideas of beautiful places to go.

Chicago has nice weather in Oct., especially early to mid Oct. (One thing to consider is that Oct. 9 is the Chicago Marathon, so I might avoid that weekend unless you want to watch part of it and don't mind the congestion). There is a TON to do in Chicago--shopping, museums, comedy clubs, biking around the city, the Shedd Aquarium, architecture tours (very cool), tons of awesome food for all budgets, musicals and stage shows, etc.

ETA: I just noticed you are from MKE, so you have probably been to Chicago before. But it would help save on costs for travel! H and I grew up near Chicago and each trip, we find something new to do or discover, so it still might be an option.

How far do you want to go?  What is your budget?

Some of my favorite places are Boston, Santa Fe, Mt. Ranier/Seattle, Disney World/Universal Studios, Washington DC, New Orleans.

New Orleans tends to have nice weather in October, although it does fall during hurricane season which can be chancey around here.  What about the Smoky Mountains / Gatlinburg?  If you go towards the middle or end of October you should have nice fall weather and see some of the leaves changing.  And should be budget friendly.
