'Stay at home' Honeymoon

Hello ladies!

I've put FI in charge of the HM thing, but we both decided that due to budget constraints, leave time, and other obligations, that we will not be honeymooning to anywhere special immediately after the wedding. Instead we plan on staying a few nights in a very nice hotel in the local area, and then take a vacation in the winter to New Zealand!

What I'd like to know is how we can make those few nights special. I'd love to have a couples massage, and go out to a nice dinner, but other than that there's not much else I can think of! It's hard when you're honeymooning in a town that you've lived for so long. Do you have any ideas how to take the ho-hum out of a home honeymoon?

Another option would be to honeymoon in North Carolina. We're getting married in Washington, then flying to North Carolina, where we will be living. I suppose we can always do a shorter honeymoon somewhere over there so it's not so dull? What do you think?

Re: 'Stay at home' Honeymoon

  • Since you're staying at a hotel anyway, can you pick a hotel in the area that has something a bit more interesting to do?  Around here, we have a couple hotels with casinos and good restaurants attached or ones near big shopping areas.  We also have one near an amusement park!  None of these are far (maybe 20 minutes) but they offer up something else to do during the day.
  • If you stay in town, I would try to play "tourist" as much as possible. I know for us, we've lived here eight years but there are still restaurants we've never tried (going to one this weekend actually). There are also things like baseball games, a museum, a zoo, etc. that we never really think about because we're local but when OOT people come here, they want to do that stuff.

So maybe go to your city's tourism or chamber of commerce website and look under the "things to do" tab. Maybe there are some neat things to do that you don't know about. Try a new restaurant, take a walk in a park or by a lake (if applicable), have a picnic, etc.

    Vacation
  • well you have some of it down already-a nice hotel in town. go to a spa for the afternoon and get a great massage, go see a show, go to a new or great restaurant etc...are there any museum exhibits you want to see? cooking classes? wine tastings?

  • I'm in the Seattle area too. Why don't you go to Eastern WA? Or, stay in Woodinville and go wine tasting. It's close enough to go to Seattle in the city to do stuff, but also somewhere different (I'm just guessing here since I'm not sure where you're at exactly in Seattle). There is SO much to do. Chelan, Leavenworht, etc.

  • @ Tiffany - I'm actually in Eastern Washington - Spokane to be precise, which is why there's really not much to do in the city that we haven't done already.

I think I will have to look into what shows will be happening around that time and go see them. If we only stay two nights (wedding night, another night) then I think spa and lounging around would be best, but I'll definitely run those ideas by FI to see what he thinks!

Thanks for the helpful advice everyone!
