Belize...On $3000

I am attempting to plan a honeymoon.  $3000 is the budget and I thought going to Belize would be AWESOME!! Flying there, we would fly out of Detroit. Any recommendations on hotels that are beach front and things to do? I was thinking staying in Belize City would work, but I am open to other ideas, as long as we stay within the $3000 budget! We are both active people and would be open to just about anything!

Thank you for any help in advance!!

  • I stopped in Belize City on a cruise, and I don't think there are many beaches near the city.  We went on a tour to Al Tun Ha ruins and had a great time.

If you are open to a cruise and stopping in Belize, The Carnival Valor makes a stop there and would work with your budget.

  • don't stay in belize city. there's nothing there really. you should be in one of these areas:
    caya (jungle)
    placencia (relaxed beach)
    hopkins (beach close to jungle)
    ambergris caye (party beach)
  • Definitely dont stay in Belize City. It's not pretty. If you stay in the Cayo-Black Rock Lodge is amazing and very affordable. Placencia has the nicest beaches- we stayed on Ambergis-the reef is very close do the water is very shallow and full of fish and seaweed and all kinds of vegetation that is not so pretty. The beaches there are also pretty short and cluttered with vegetation that washes up from the reef. Placencia has the nice beaches with good swimming.

I just returned from Belize and had a similar budget!  First, GO!  It is beautiful, the people are so friendly, and the food is amazing.  Second, really think about what you want to do.  Belize has it all....  Third, it was a little easier than traveling to some other international destinations only because they accept the US dollar and the national language is English.  Good for us since we were incapable of thinking after the wedding.

We wanted to do a little adventure along with relaxing and purchased a package thru Caves Branch.....http://www.belizetreehouses.com/.  We bought a package for about $2300 which including our lodging, most meals, and transportation once we were in Belize (didn't include airfare from OH).  We spent 3 days, all inclusive, at Caves Branch in the jungle. We stayed in a "treehouse" which was new, clean, and cozy and then each day, we could chose an expedition such as cave tubing, repelling, zip lining, etc.  This is not a "sit on the beach and have someone serve you pina coladas" kind of place.  But if you are cool with a more active honeymoon, you might like this.  All the meals are family style and very community-like.  We met people from all over and made some new friends!

The other part of our package was spending a few days at a beach house in Hopkins.  This part was awesome!  Our house, Villa Verona, was literally on the water and gorgeous.  However, this part was not all inclusive.  We had breakfast provided inthe package but after that, we were on our own - which I loved!  it allowed us to venture out around the village (we rented a golf cart for a few hours) and we got to eat local foods, get private drum lessons from the locals, adn drink one too many coconut rums and pineapple juice.  It was great!!

We had the perfect mix of activity and relaxation.  Hope you find what you are looking for!
Wedding bliss since January 14, 2012!
  • Like the PPs said, Belize City really doesn't have much to offer.  I was in Belize a number of years ago and we flew into Belize City, but then stayed most of the time in San Ignacio.  We went on a jungle tour, saw a gorgeous waterfall, took canoes through caves, etc.  To get our beach fix, we took a small plane from Belize City to San Pedro for a couple days.  The snorkeling was amazing, probably the best I've experienced!

  • Belize is doable on a 3K budget. We went there in June 2010 for a vacation. We stayed at a resort (Black Orchid) about 15 min. outside of Belize City. The resort was just a small, family-owned resort next to a river. The people were friendly and they offered all-inclusive packages. Our package included tours, meals and rooms. I believe, we paid $1400 for 5 nights. We went to waterfalls, mayan ruins, zipling, cave tubing, etc...it was adventurous and very beautiful! Then we flew over to San Pedro and stayed at the Victoria House for a few days (they upgraded our rooms for free, since we went during off season). It's one of the most romantic resorts we've been to... people were so friendly and attentive. We went snorkeling with little nurse sharks and rays... it was incredible. Belize is beautiful - we would love to go back there. It's also getting more popular nowadays, so go now, before it turns into a tourist mecca. :)

  • How did the trip turn out?  We are thinking of Belize for the honeymoon for around 3k.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks!
