Hawaii or Caribbean???

FI and I are having so much trouble deciding where we want to go on our honeymoon!  We have it narrowed down to two choices: Hawaii (specifically Maui), or an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean.

Neither of us have ever been to Hawaii, and we've both always wanted to go.  We've both been to the Caribbean before (on cruises), but we'd go somewhere new this time anyway.  Obviously the Caribbean would be the cheaper option since we're on the east coast.  Also, at an all-inclusive, we'd have the added benefit of not having to worry about how much money we're spending on food, activities, etc. since it's included.  I feel like if we went to an all-inclusive, I'd be much more likely to try new things (specifically thinking food and drink) that I wouldn't if I knew I had to pay for them.  On the other hand, Hawaii is...well...HAWAII!

Our honeymoon will be in early April (our wedding is April 3, so it would likely be that following week), I don't know if that makes a difference.

Any thoughts/advice/stories of your experiences would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks Smile
Anniversary

  • Neither of us have ever been to Hawaii, and we've both always wanted to go.

That is exactly why we decided on Hawaii for our honeymoon. Neither of us has been there and we figured the honeymoon was the perfect reason to splurge. By renting a condo through vrbo.com and buying "Maui Revealed" to plan and budget for meals and excursions, we are doing the trip as economically as possible. Our honeymoon is a once and a lifetime trip and we wanted to make is something to remember!

You still have plenty of time to think about it and plan, so browse on trip advisor and spend the afternoon in the travel section of Barnes and Noble. Good luck!

  • We also chose Hawaii because we had both been to the Caribbean before.  We bought the revealed books, are checking out things to do, and have put a little aside from our paychecks each month in order to afford it.

  • I think you would really enjoy an all-inclusive in the Caribbean for your honeymoon! I definitely think this will create a more laid back and luxurious trip where you don’t have to worry about a thing. One resort I would recommend is Secrets Sanctuary. Secrets Sanctuary is a fabulous, adult’s only all-inclusive located in Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. The service is excellent and there a number of restaurants to chose from. The spa is also amazing. It’s the perfect place for you and your hubby to get a couple’s massage. If you’re looking for a little extra romance, you can plan a quiet dinner for two on the beach. Good luck with your decision and congratulations!

  • I have never been to maui just to oahu but Hawaii is a amazing place. My DH and I got married in oahu 2 yrs ago,all my family fell in love.Dh and I just got back a couple months ago,We all had a blast and would go back in a heart beat any time.

As for saving money the first time we went we rented a condo and it had a great BBQ area,so we had many BBQ and sat by the pool with my family. But as some one else said thier are so many great restraunts that you should try out, before we went I made a list of all the great restraunts sunset specials.Alot of ppl think Hawaii is very expensive but it is really not if you look for the great deals.

The trip DH and I took 2 months ago we spent as much money on flights, room, food, drinks,as our friends did going to Mexico in a all inclussive, and they were not happy with thier food. Our friends have been to both and he said its really not to much cheaper.

When we got married I watched for flights almost every day on web sights like escapes.ca,expedia, travelocity as soon as I saw the cheapest flights I book right away and we got our flights next to nothing.
