Ireland Honeymoon

FI and I booked our honeymoon to Ireland about 2 weeks ago. We're flying into Dublin for a week and are planning to rent a car and drive around the country.

Other then Wicklow Mountains, Kilkenny, Cork (Blarney Stone), Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Galway, Cliffs of Moher and Belfast are there any other MUST see places?

Re: Ireland Honeymoon

  • Connemara was gorgeous.  Kilkenny is also beautiful.  Have you considered staying a night or two in a castle? There's also a Falconry school at Ashford (where H and I got married), it was a really fun experience.

  • CMG - I drive a stick currently and have driven on some of the narrow roads of Germany. While I don't have a ton of experience, it's not something I'd be doing for the first time.

  • I totally recommend taking a bus tour for the Ring of Kerry. Even if you have experience on the narrow roads, this takes you up to a pretty high altitude with a lot of hills and curvy roads.
  • Concur with "scary" driving - been with family who are experienced with Ireland roads, and I'll just say that I was relieved to be a passenger and not behind the wheel!  Very narrow roads, other drivers passing at high speeds, roundabouts, the whole "driving on wrong side of road" factor.  Best of luck if you do choose to rent a car.  Ireland is one of my favorite places to visit; you will have a wonderful time!
  • Be prepared for inclement weather, cold and rain, but do not let that take away from the experience. If you want to mix up the experiences, I suggest a few nights in bed and breakfasts, they are much less expensive than hotels and give you a chance to truly interact with locals. The west coast and south are truly gorgeous. Enjoy it.
