Early October Honeymoon

I am getting married at the end of September and we are going to be on our honeymoon during the first week of October.  I really want to go to the Caribbean, but I am a little nervous.  I have read that I should go where I want to and just get travel insurance.  What does the travel insurance do for you?  Has anyone traveled during this time and had to change locations because of a hurricane?

Re: Early October Honeymoon

  • just fyi-it's trip insurance, not travel insurance (as you're insuring the trip)
insuremytrip.com is my fave trip insurance site. what the coverage does depends on the policy's limits, terms, exclusions etc.. just like any other kind of insurance.
to get an idea of what's covered you can do a fake quote. get a quote online for air and hotel that you want (even if you haven't booked yet) and go onto the site and input the inof, price it out and compare policies.

  • We HMed in Riveria Maya and booked an Apple Vacation through a TA.  We got the trip insurance and about a week before the wedding, we thought we were going to have to use it because there was a tropical storm in the area; however, it cleared up and we still went as planned; we had 8 gorgeous days of 90 degree F weather and sun!

Don't count out the area just because it's hurricane season.  Get the insurance and you'll be good to go.
  • We went to Aruba in early October and had great weather. There were a few sprinkles of rain every day, but it was refreshing.

To answer your question, we did not buy trip insurance because we figured the weather was pretty safe that time of year.

We are getting married late September and going on our honeymoon beginning of October. We booked St Lucia. We did get insurance just incase. If a hurricane happens when we are there and unable to come home, they will put us up at a hotel at no additional charge if our week is up. I know it was a risk being hurricane season, but I really wanted to go. I didnt want to take a cruise, since we were just on one. Anyway, our cruise actually got pushed back a day because of Hurricane Irene. So we lost a day.
