Prices in Bali?

Hello ladies!

I have had a hell of a time deciding where to go for our honeymoon, but have finally gotten my list WAY narrowed down, and I think I am close to making a decision on where to go with my fiancé next July. Belize is the current front-runner, as I like the idea of being able to do jungle hikes and lots of other activities to break up the lazy beach days.
I also think that Bali looks amazing, but the flight getting there is so expensive, that I wonder how far our money would go once we actually land! Does anyone have any experiences with prices in Indonesia? I had some family members go to Bora Bora recently (which was my original dream destination), and apparently the prices for EVERYTHING were ridiculously high there. I imagine this might be the case in many exotic locales, which has me worried.
Any other honeymoon locations that I should check out are certainly welcome! We are in our late 20s and want to have an exotic-feeling, romantic trip. We don't have any experience wtih AIs and cruises...but I don't think that those would be our "thing". I'd rather rent a villa or stay at a smaller hotel than be crammed in with a ton of other lovebirds! Smile

We went to Bali two summers ago and LOVED IT! July is the perfect time but I wouln't go all that way unless you have 2 weeks though. And I imagine the trip would be WAY cheaper than Bora Bora.
We actually spent a week on Bali and a week in the Gili islands which I would highly recommend to mix things up. Bali has some amazing hotels...I would check out Trip advisor. We stayed at Kuta beach but i wouldnt recommend it, its kinda grungy. I heard Seminyak is nice and Nusa Dua. I would spend some time in either town then stay in Ubud for a few nights. Then you can take a fast boat over to the Gilis. Gili T is the biggest island of them all and absolutely amazing. No cars, cute villas on the beach, fun bars and cheap restaurants. Its not for everyone but Bali is pretty busy and touristy so we liked splitting up our time.
Anyway I could go on and on...but if you have anymore questions PM me.
I have no idea how much flights cost from where you're from, we paid $1100 each including tax from Vancouver Canada and thought that was a pretty good price. Once your in Indonesia hotels range in price ( from $100-thousands) but I would check all that online. Food is really reasonable and we ate amazing seafood meals for less than $15/person. Again also depends on where you eat but we thought the food was cheap. We also thought the transportation and tours we did were reasonably priced and oh yah the scuba diving and snorkeling is unreal;)
    Hope this helps;)

  • Bali definitely has cheaper options than French Polynesia.  Of course, high end Bali is as expensive as high end anywhere else.  But there's stuff for all budgets once you are there.  Ditto the tripadvisor recommendation.

    I like the Seminyak area.

Bali expenses might be cheaper than Bora Bora.  We wanted to go to Bora Bora also but decided on the Maldives.  Very similar but a bit more affordable.
