Poll: Passports

I think it's really interesting to see the number of people who don't have passports before their honeymoon. Soo...

Re: Poll: Passports

  • My husband had only been on a plane twice in his life before the HM, so yeah, he needed to get a passport.  He'd been to Canada when he was younger, but it was before a passport was required.

  • We both had passports, but mine expired, so I had to renew.  Can't wait to use it for the honeymoon we just booked to Italy!

[QUOTE]I live internationally, in London where I met my English FI.   I have also lived in Aus.  I got my passport when I was 20 though.  My kids however will have 2 at birth, boo-yah.   FI traveled on his parents passport until he was about 14, this is allowed for travel through out EU countries back in the day, no longer though.  When he was 14 he went to the US.   My family on the other hand does not have passport still.  No one has visited me, sad story.

I don't think anyone in my family has a passport except my uncle, who travels for work frequently.  I could barely get people to come from the West coast to my wedding in Maryland, so I'm pretty sure they would never visit me in London.  But they're the ones missing out - I would definitely visit a family member in London, it's a great excuse to travel!

  • Pretty much everyone in my family has a passport, and I've had two (US and UK) since I can remember since my first international flight was when I was 6 weeks old and we moved to England. I also now live in Chile and H is Chilean, so my kids will have 3 passports!

I also grew up in the SF Bay Area, which is both generally wealthy and pretty diverse, so I only relatively recently realized that there are a lot of people in their 20s who don't have passports.
  • As I like to explain to Europeans, the US is rather larger than Europe and while it's certainly more diverse to go to Europe (or C. America or S. America, or anywhere else) we don't have the kind of vacation time that most people here do.  It's not *that* shocking when you break it down.

However, I didn't have a passport until a week before we moved to Italy. *shameface*
  • I'm a military brat, so I pretty much grew up with a passport in my hand. My husband is English and has had one for ages too.
  • We both got one for the honeymoon...I've been to Canada and Mexico, but only right over the border and before passports were required.

FI took his first plane trip about 4 years ago and flew from Milwaukee to Houston, so he definitely didn't have a passport.

Now that we both have one though, I'm really hoping to make a lot of use of them!!!
  • We both have passports.  I've always had one since  I was a kid. Love to travel! :)
  • We both had to update our passports two years ago when we went to Costa Rica.  Sadly, we never got to use them since.  I look forward to next month when we go!
  • DH had been going on cruises for years with his family before we met, and I went on a cruise right before we got serious. Then our first big trip together was to Cancun and then we took another cruise together during the engagement so by the time we went on our HM we had definitely used our passports. Traveling is our passion, and we both want to see as much of the world as possible, we've both been bitten by the travel bug and we love it!
  • I have a lot of family out of the country so I've had a passport since I was born. I actually have dual-citizenship so I have 2 passports. FI didnt have one though, so we took care of that right away

Actually, I have a passport and the new passport card (for travel to/from Mexico, Canada and cruises from US ports).  Even if we/I did not have plans to travel internationally, I'd have a passport.  I was 15 when I got my first one -- for a trip to Germany and have always had a current passport.  You just never know when you might need it.
  • I've never had a passport.  I've driven into Mexico and Canada before they were required.  FI has one because he has a lot of family in France, then he was stationed in Germany for a few years when he was in the military.  We are planning to go to Cabo for our HM next year, so I'm waiting until about 8-9 months before the wedding to apply for one, that way, I'll have 3-4 months after the wedding to change my name on my passport for free.
