Hair & Makeup Double Dilemma

Hi ladies!

I could use some advice!

On everybody's suggestion, I contacted Meghann Davis primarily about needing my hair done for my wedding.  She's extremely nice, very down-to-earth, and very professional when I talk to her on the phone.  Here's my double-dilemma:  I'm not convinced I need my makeup done on the wedding day.  I'm extremely fortunate to have really good skin, and I have extremely sensitive skin, so I'm not sure if I need/could do/should bother with airbrushing makeup.  If I didn't do airbrushing, I don't think I'd pay the $90 to have someone apply regular makeup.  Has anybody had airbrushing with Meghann befeore?  I've read a lot of very mixed reviews online of airbrushing in general, but I know everybody here loves Meghann.

The second half of my double-dilemma is this:  Meghann was very sweet when she called, but she explained that she's primarily a makeup person, and she suggested that if I don't want makeup and all of my BMs only want hair as well, I go through her associate (Tracy, I believe?).  I've never seen talk of Tracy online, and I don't know anything about her.  So if  I don't get makeup, I might be back to the drawing board with hair stylists!

So, my questions are this:  To airbrush or not to airbrush?  To go with Mystery Tracy or find somebody else altogether?

I hope I can find someone with under six weeks to go!

Thanks for the help!

I've had my makeup airbrushed twice before and I love it, it lasts all day and feels super light. I also had my trial with Meghann and love her but agree she's more of a make-up person then hair. I'm having her do both though. Even though you said you don't know if you should have your make-up done professionally just remember that you should wear heavier then normally makeup on the big day just so you don't look washed out in photos. Even if you don't need much foundation your still going to want your eyes to stand out and everything to pop and for your man to go wow when he sees you. When I had my trial Meghann was very vocal about me telling her how much coverage I wanted so she knew how heavy to go with the makeup. I think you should have both done even if you don't use her. Good luck!

Have a trial done- it may be worth it.  It is 1/2 of the regular price,so for a trial of airbrush make up is $45.  But that might be worth spending since you are up in the air about it.  I was the same way as you with the make up situation.  I was just going to do mine to save money- but I had a trial and loved what I saw.  The wedding day is the day to really shine. I want to feel beautiful and this is my 'treat' for myself. Also- because so many people on the day of my wedding want to get thier hair done, she may need to bring her associate, who I am guessing is Tracy.  She trusts her and calls on her for additional help or emergency situations.  I honestly really trust Meghann.  But like I said- if you are not sure, you need to do what you need to do to BE SURE.  Have a trial and possibly ask about a trial with Tracy to be sure you will be happy!!

I have used Meghann twice now, for my own trial/wedding and for my sister-in-law's wedding. I hardly ever wear makeup and she was able to taylor what she did to make it look very natural. I would recommend you do a trial if you are really unsure though. Tracey her associate is awesome too! She was at my wedding and my sister-in-laws also. She's done a combination of styles and some straight from books for me. Both of these vendors are great!

Patricia LeJeune does hair and make up equally well. No matter who you use...   I'd definitely reccomend getting your make-up done because it will be a long day and you want to look your best in all of your pictures... from the first shots of you getting dressed until you leave the reception.  :) It really is worth every penny and I'd think a trial would be ideal for you since you are a litle apprehensive.  :)

Thanks so much all! It seems like the airbrushing is mostly a big hit, and for the price I might as well try it out.  If I didn't get my makeup done professionally, I'd still have to run around and spend the cash on waterproof mascara, good matte medium-coverage foundation, the right eyeshadow and eyeliner, etc. etc. etc.  ($$$$$).

I emailed Meghann back and told her that after my unfortunate waffling over the makeup, I'd like to try tthe airbrushing, and if I really don't like that, then I'll just have her apply regular makeup the day of.  Hopefully that'll work!

    Thanks again ladies!

    Hi Ruby!

Woot for March brides!  I'm getting married at Shades of Green at Disney - how about you?  How's your stress levels?

Yup, the stress has really set in this week.  If I'm not working (I'm on my lunch break right now), I'm running like a crazy person to get wedding stuff done.  This hair nonsense is my immediate headache.

So there was a miscommunication with Meghann, and I thought she was checking on Tracy's availability - she understood it to be that I was going to be using Tracy rather than Meghann since I wasn't interested in makeup at first. Immediately after Meghann set me up with Tracy (rather than what I thought of the availability check), she emailed me and called (I couldn't answer - I was on a telcon), and another bride asked for my date and Meghann gave it to her thinking that I was just going to go with Tracy.  Lesson learned:  Email all phone conversation talking points to ensure no miscommunications

So, no Meghann, and I just contacted Patricia LeJeune on SoonToBeJLO's recommendation.  Now to scour The Knot and see who else I can find that has good recommendations.  Here's hoping that someone has availability five weeks before a springtime wedding!

I think Patricia is better than Meghan, anyway! So it will all work out for the best. (I didn't use her, I used Leslie at Studio Cara...love her!) As far as the airbrush goes, I'm not a fan. It can't be blended and tends to make brides look washed out. I'd do a trial with each and see which one you prefer in photos. Good luck!
