What type of liquir do I buy?

I went to total wine and they had a formula to figure out how many 1.75 L bottles of alcohol you need. I need 5. So, how should I allocate it to different types of liquor and what brand should I buy? I want cheap vidka and gin because no one will be drinking it plain and therefore will not really notice a difference, but I don't want like Burnetts because everyone knows the cheap brand.
I was thinking 2 Whiskey, 2 Vodka, and 1 Gin. For Whiskey we have no choice but to get Crown Royal because that is all FI drink, but what brands of vodka and gin do you recommend for a reception?

I would buy a basic bar: gin, vodka, whisky, tequlia, rum. I'd say buy one liters of everything with extra of the stuff people like or 1.75 plus a smaller bottle of the stuff you are sure your friends will drink. Tell the bartenders to open the larger bottles first. I would definitely get extra vodka and you said you guys love Crown, so that too. You should try and make a full bar setup so people can have whatever basic drinks they want. For brands, I'd go with the cheapest name brands: Bacardi, Smirnoff, Cuervo, Beefeater, and you already have to buy Crown. I was told Total Wine takes returns, so I'd err on the side of caution so you don't have to stop the reception and buy more. I got a coupon for Total Wine today, so if you still need it, email me at ashbosity@hotmail.com and i'll forward it to you. Its only for wine and beer though. Good luck!

Vodka - Ketel one (or Absolute for something a little cheaper)
    Gin - Tangeray

Hahaha! I am the part time bartender, so I figured I'd put my 2 cents in. I looked on a wedding guide and it told me a ridiculous amount of liquor to buy. It totally depends on your crowd though.

Are you not getting any rum?  Because I think there are way more mixed drinks you can make with rum than with gin.

Anyhow, I think your allocation is good.  More people drink vodka than gin.  For Vodka, I'd go with Absolut or Smirnoff.  I don't know about gin.

Actually, I totally agree with Ashley.  her solution is better.  Get one of each plus a little extra.

I forgot about rum. FI and I really only drink Crown Royal and Gin, so I guess we aren't the norm.
Which rum, clear or spiced? I really can't remember the last time I drank rum!

Clear rum and I would definitely suggest Bacardi.  You need to provide a variety of of mixed drinks so people can order whatever their usual is.

Also, have you purchased mixers?  You'll definitely need a lot of mixers.  All the regular sodas obviously, plus grenadine, orange juice, club soda, pineapple juice, etc.

Puff n Stuff is providing the mixers. Thankfully because I would be lost on that! I am a gin and tonic or crown royal and water person! haha
Thanks for reminding about the rum, we are going to get that too.

We provided our alcohol too! I suggest buying extra and returning unopened bottles after the wedding if you can.  We purchased extra and still ran out (Vodka -- shoulda known).  Luckily Tracy, our DOC, ran out and bought a few extra handles and the party went on.  :)  Obviously most people drank vodka at our wedding of all of the liquors we had... the Bacardi was barely touched.  I don't remember the rest b/c DH and my dad were in charge of the liquor/wine/beer.  We had a ton of leftover white wine that TW would not take back.  They don't take white wine that has been chilled back... you could tell ours was b/c the labels were messed up from the ice in the coolers.  Everyone talked about what a great party we had and were impressed with our beer/wine/liquor selections.  My dad was very proud.  :) GL!!!
