Tipping Photographer?

My FI and I were just talking about this.... we would like to tip all our vendors just because we think it's the nice thing to do... but like for photo (and even video I guess) did you/do you tip them night of as a thank you... even though technically you don't see the pictures?

What is considered a good amount to tip someone? SHOULD you tip all of the vendors?

Yep I tipped our photographer. I'm not sure how much but he was our favorite vendor so I think we tipped him around $50??? But I tipped any where from $25-$50 for all of my vendors. Tipping was something we forgot to calculate into our budget until realizing a few weeks before the wedding that it is customary to tip. So just make sure you leave a $$ for tipping. It doesn't have to be much and make sure you write a nice thank you note to them to go along with it, sometimes thats even better then $$ because they can use it to show future clients. Hope this helps! :o)

I asked my DOC this question on Tuesday..She said tipping is NOT expected of the vendors, nor is it necessary..It's a choice completely up to the couple. There is not set price on how much you should tip a vendor; it should really be based on if the person went above and beyond your expectations and the call of duty..Hope this helps!

its hard for me to fathom paying a photographer 2k and then having to tip them, when I know what goes into it and they are royally serving me on a plate already. LOL same goes with a 700 buck DJ. I dont think im gonna do it, they already have too much of my moola.

I read somewhere that you should tip vendors who do not own their business. So I would tip my DJ because he works for the business and is not the actual owner. Another example is we are having two photographers...one is the owner of the business and the other is his associate. Im assuming I would tip the associate, but not the owner.... All is all its pretty confusing...but I say you tip what you want to whom you want! :-D

Yeah I just think it's hard to tip photo and video since you haven't even seen the product yet!!!

I think it's acceptable to wait to tip until you see the product. I've had too many friends have to wait longer than expected for their photos, so maybe tipping after is a good thing. Also, the servers are supposed to get tipped apparently.
