Poll: Engagement shots

Just curious - this was inspired by what i read on P&E Did you get Engagement shots?  Do you feel like they are a waste?

They're part of my package. I wanted some nice pics of us so a friend did some for free (see siggy). My photog is going to do them soon (if it ever stops raining).  I like them because I think it gives you a chance to get to know your photographer a bit and ask for things he isn't doing or tell him not to do things he is doing. If I had to pay extra for them, I wouldn't do it.

I am trying to get mine done for our 5 year anniversary. It was actually a promotion that was going on when we booked our photog, so we are pretty happy about it. As Alexia said, it really gives you an aopportunity to get to kneo your photographer and see how he will work with the two of you prior to your big day. regardless of if he wasn't doing it for us, we had planned on getting some done. The fact that we dont have to pay for them is a perk, and in the end we will get pretty pics that we may be able to use at the card table or guestbook station we are having. HTH!

I was just curious.  We had them done and I know a bunch of other people on this board have had them done.  I was wondering if people were doing them because they were part of a package or because they wanted them.  I actually wanted them done...why?  Well because in 5 years we only have a handful of pictures of us and none of them are that great.  I wanted some different types of pics that we will prob never do again in the future.  That said, I guess I can see how they could be a waste.  I always look at my photogs blog and don't understand why people do pregnant photo shoots.

I always look at my photogs blog and don't understand why people do pregnant photo shoots. If it were free or SUPER cheap, I might.  They're kinda cool.  Especially the artsy ones.  That being said, FI's got a sweet camera so I could just have him take the pics.

We didn't think they were completely necessary but Grant wanted to do it because we don't really have any good pictures of us together and he wanted more then ones in our wedding outfits and I thought it would be a great time to get to know our photographer and get a feel for what she wanted from us and for her to get to know our personality and what we were looking for too!

oh yea - i also meant to say, i wanted some pics of us since we didn't have any - in addition to the ones of us in a big white dress!

As the token pregnant lady, I had to laugh at the "belly pic" comment!  I'm (still, ugh) not showing yet but if you wanna see some weeeeird prego pictures, look no further than some of the siggy pics on the bump.  Haha, I won't be doing anything too creepy like that but maybe a non-professional shot or two.  That will not be posted on the internet! As for engagement pics, we did them and am I am so glad that we did.  Not only did if give us a chance to feel out our photographer before the wedding, they ended up being some of our favorite pictures ever.  Our wedding photos are great, but it's even better to have all the shots of DH and I together in "normal" clothes/settings.  Based on our experience, I definitely say they're worth the money...even if you have to pay extra, although we got lucky and did not.

I got them and I loved them. I figured they were the only formal pictures DH and I would have in plain clothes before we added kiddies into the mix so I think it was worth it :) Plus it gave for some cute shots on STDs, my card box, and my signature frame.

HA HA - I need to re-phrase...I want some pics of me pregnant, it just never crossed my mind to pay for that.  So I guess I could see why people would say the same about engagement shots. Knowing me though, I love pictures, and would somehow try to convince my h for preggo pics AND annual family shots!

I'm just such a studio-hater.  I really don't like the way Sears and JCPenny portraits turn out. I feel bad for babies whose parents make them do this. Go buy a cheap digital camera and pose your kid in your house - they always come out so much better!

They are coming with our package....If we wouldn't have chose the package with them, we probably wouldn't have gotten them...My boss is a really good photographer, so I would have just asked her to take some of us.... My main reason for choosing to have them is that we dont have any really nice shots of us. We have great photos of us...but most are from when we are out at the parks or hanging out. We plan to use photos throughout the wedding in some way or another, so I figured we should have some nice ones. To make it not feel like a waste, we are creating a photo guest book, which will display the different photos of us. This is also a very easy way for us to get in a "Family" portrait....Family being myself, FI, and our dog :-D

We haven't gotten any done yet..FI & FMIL said to just take our digital camera and drive around town taking pics..lOl..Right now, we'd love to do them but the extra $$ is an issue..I know that I'd love to get some "formal" fun shots done because we don't have many pics together from recently; they're all from back in the day like circa 1996-2006

We did them and I'm glad we did.  We had a lot of fun doing our E-pix and we used a few pictures for our Save the Dates and wedding website.  Our friends and family loved the pictures!

We are actually getting e-pics done tomorrow...We were supposed to do them today but she backed out on us a half hour before shooting time...Awesome!We are 4 months out, so I'm really not sure why we are doing them since we obviously aren't sending out save the dates at this point. We're doing an engagement announcement in the paper, but that's it. So yea, it really is a waste of time/money...Yet we're doing it anyways.

We were going to just have a friend take some photos but then decided to have them done with Jessica..since we were pretty sure we wanted to book her for the wedding. I am SO glad we did. We have the photos framed in various places throughout the house, used them for our save the dates, and plan to incorporate them into our centerpieces. I don't feel like they are a waste...but I can see how they would have been had we not used them for so many different things.

oooh and we also did the Photo guestbook. LOVE the way that came out. We used our top photos in it(probably around 15) and left enough room on each page for signatures/messages.

~re. Prego pics Looking back I wish I had more pictures of me pregnant. I was huge....but I wish I had more photos of just me and my baby bump. My son is my life and I know he would love that.
