Since we had the rehearsal at my house, my parents bought a keg and I gave everyone the head's up that there would be a keg. That being said, if we had done it in a restaurant, I would've provided beer and wine and that's it.GL and HTH!

We let people order what they wanted and we picked up the entire check.  We had 13 people and the check was just over $1000.I would not recommend that you limit what people can order.  The point of the rehearsal dinner is to thank the people involved in the wedding party.  As a guest to that event, I would side-eye the hosts(you/hubby or parents) told me I had to pay for my liquor considering I paid for a dress, gift, lodging and parties as well as giving up time to help you find a dress and do other wedding errands. Think of it this way.  You have a huge project at work that necessitates help from your coworkers to finish.  You complete the task and want to take everybody out to dinner to say thank you.  You would not ask them to pay for their drinks at that event.  Why is your wedding any different. We decided how much we were willing to spend and selected a restaurant that would come in under that price including all the liquor.  The restaurant does not need to be fancy pants.  It can be your fav BBQ place or even your back yard. Please look at other options before making your guests pay.

At ours we mainly just had wine and a few people got beer. The servers asked if you wanted red or white and that is just what people went with. It seemed like people didn't drink that much at mine... I mean the wedding is the next day so a hangover would be a bad idea...

We're doing beer and wine at our rehearsal dinner and providing a full open bar at the wedding... we thought the liquor would be better saved for that night. Plus that's a great point -- helps reduce the risk of everyone being too hungover the next day. :)

We are having our rehearsal dinner at our venue the night before. It is being catered by them and it's a "bbq" mostly. We are serving sweet tea, etc. and will offer a cash bar. Since we are paying out of pocket for the entire wedding and are having a bar at the wedding that we covered we figured this was fine and those involved(ie invited) to the rehearsal agree that this is not a problem and they do not mind having to pay for alcohol if they want it. I agree with pp about this also possibly reducing the risk of hangovers the next day. I do not plan to be drinking at the rehearsal dinner.

I think we did beer and wine and had a cap on drinks per person but I don't really remember =/ I don't drink much, DH doesn't drink at all, and neither do most of our friends or his family so alcohol wasn't a big concern for us at either the wedding or the RD.
