RAVE: Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightening

So after *steverani's* post, I really wanted to take the plunge into the Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightening Treatment. I went to see John at Blades Hair Salon on Edgewater Drive. He first advised that I make sure I was happy with my hair color (since you can't dye your hair for 2 weeks after the treatment) and that I get 2 conditioning treatments a week apart first (my hair was a mess! these treatments help your hair get healthier and allow the straightening tx to last longer). I did a light colored glaze to dye over some outgrown highlights, a light trim, and did the conditioning treatments. My hair was starting to feel healthier, but it really takes me forever to blowdry it. So I got the treatment done Friday. He washed my hair, blow drys it straight, and flat irons it. Then I get the keratin stuff put in and I wait 30 minutes. Then I get it blowed out and flat ironed (with the keratin stuff still in it). I felt so greasy! I wasn't allowed to put it behind my ear, in a ponytail, or have a hat on. It was gross cause I felt like I couldn't even wash my hair normally. Monday I went back and they double washed it out and blowed it out and flat ironed it. I feel like my hair just looks shinier and healthier, but the biggest change is how easily I can manage it. It takes much less time to blow dry and flat iron it. It also is not as affected by the weather (although the weather has been better lately). The price is $150/hour through John at Blades. It took him 2 hours for me and he did mention that my hair was unusually thick. He usually only needs 1 oz of the treatment on hair and he needed 3 oz on me. He had an assistant help blowdry to speed up the process. It's supposed to last 3-5 months. I am really happy I got it for the wedding coming up! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Any way you can post before and after pics?

Honestly, some "before" photos of my hair don't look so terrible because I brutalize it by blowdrying the crap out of it and straightening it....plus all of the products and everything.  My hair used to be straight in childhood and now it is just wavy and frizzy if I let it airdry- but I never do that, so  I don't have really awful before photos!  The best word I can use to describe it now is that it feels silky. I used to tell my fiance that my hair was beginning to feel like hay!

I keep forgetting that I cut my hair off. It's right under my ear so I don't think I need this... Alexia FAIL.

So was your hair more on the straight side than curly side?  I want to do this too since my hair has a wave to it.  But people think I am crazy since my hair is closer to the stright side but I must blowdry for straightness.  Any thoughts?

My hair is not curly.  It has a frizzy wave thing to it.  There is another type of treatment I think called Kerastate Conditioning that is similar but without the straightening.  I feel like my hair is not pin straight still unless I flat iron it.  I think that's  a good thing though.  That way I can style it how I want.  I would do this treatment even if my hair was shorter because it just feels healthier.  The shampoo girl says she does it 3X a year and she feels like her hair is finally growing quicker cause it's healthier.

I am so glad that you are happy with it!! I am pissed that I didn't do this sooner!! It has been a month now and it still looks great! What shampoo are you using?? I bought a special shampoo with Keratin in it but I think it is too much because it gets a lot of build up in it and I have to do a Baking Soda rinse to get it out...(don't know if this is good or not..so I don't advise it...but it hasn't hurt it so far) I felt like such a grease ball after getting it done!!! I was used to washing my hair every day and couldnt beleive I went 4 days!!! But now I can sometimes skip a day with washes becaus I wake up and my hair looks like I did when I fell asleep!! Alexia...i have a hilarious before and after pic...because I am a teacher we get free school pics taken when the kids get theirs and they took it the day before my treatment...LORDY!!! I knew my hair was frizzy but I had never seen it like this! If I get brave enough I will post before and after...

I am using A/G Color Savour Sulfate-free shampoo. I like it. I usually don't need to wash my hair every day though. I started using it a few weeks before the treatment cause my stylist says it will keep the color glaze they put in last longer too.
